On Friday May 6, 2022, Vancouver Police announced that they had discovered the remains of a 24 year old Cree woman Chelsea Poorman who disappeared from Downtown Vancouver, British Columbia over a year and a half ago. Chelsea’s skeletal remains were found on the property of a vacant mansion in one of the cities most wealthy neighborhoods. At a press conference, police stated that while they believed her body had been there since the night she disappeared and due to their skeletal state cause of death could not be determined, they also had no reason to believe that her death was the result of anything suspicious. They went on to clarify this statement saying the totality of their evidence does not lead to them believing anyone else is involved in the death of Chelsea. This led her family and the rest of the public to ask the question – then what happened to Chelsea Poorman? How did she end up in the backyard of a vacant mansion in one of the wealthiest neighborhoods in Vancouver, and how did her body go unnoticed for almost 19 months?
