  • "No Regerts": We Discuss Tattoos in the "In Death" Series
    Hey, Everyone!
In this episode, we are discussing Tattoos! The best part about this episode, is that when we mentioned on our Facebook page that we were going to talk about Tattoos, Dana replied that she had just finished a MASSIVE spreadsheet about tattoos! Thank Goodness for that, because it was also MASSIVELY helpful.
We talk about all the times Eve has been tattooed against her will, how many killers tattooed their victims, and a tattoo YANNI! We also speculate on which characters would have a tattoo and what those tattoos would be. We would love to see Trina someday put a tattoo on Roarke against his will, and we decide that it should be a tattoo of Scrooge McDuck. Also, if Feeney has a tattoo, it's of the Rolling Stones logo of the lips with the tongue hanging out. (see attachments).
We are pretty sure that at the very least, Dickie Berenski has a lame tattoo...something like "No Regerts."

  • Even Dead Women Think Roarke's Hot: We Review "Possession in Death"
This week: Everyone's Favorite: Possession in Death!
AJ doesn't have a theme for this week, either because she just couldn't find one, or she just didn't care. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
For those who were disappointed that Eve never questioned Sylvester Moriarty at the end of the last book, you will be relieved to know that he is questioned at the beginning of this book. Also, people who were disappointed they never saw the BBQ that was mentioned several times in "Indulgence," we now get to see it, with all our favorite characters making an appearance, including Father Lopez and Mavis, Leonardo and Bella, who apparently flew in from London just for the BBQ. Bella is already talking at four months, and we're skeptical about that.
Eve drives Father Lopez home from the BBQ, stops to help an injured old lady "Gizi," and subsequently becomes possessed by her spirit because she is dying and wants to make sure she can help Eve find her granddaughter, Beata. Now that Eve is possessed, she can speak Russian, (and insult Summerset in Russian) spout off the recipe for goulash, see dead people (including a woman who thinks Roarke is hot), and has a new tattoo of a peacock feather on her ankle. But it doesn't stop her from having sex with Roarke.
After a short investigation, Eve decides she knows who the killer is, and sets up an op to save Beata. She brings Father Lopez in on the op because someone might be Catholic, so...
During the rescue, Eve sees more dead people and Roarke gets to knock down a wall with a sledgehammer. Gizi's spirit leaves Eve but not before she asks Eve if she would like to keep the gift of seeing and talking to the dead. Eve says no thank you, which is a wise decision.
Regardless of the things that we find annoying in this book, we can't deny it's a fun read.

  • I Can't Believe I Read Another One! We Review the Reviews of "Indulgence in Death"
    Hello, Everyone!
Here we are with another episode of We Review the Reviews! This time we are looking at reviews for "Indulgence in Death." The really surprising thing about this set of reviews is that it takes us down some very interesting paths of really dissecting Eve and Roarke's relationship.
We also get a lot of really odd complaints...at least WE think they're odd...Such as:
"I can't believe I read another one! How do I stop reading these?"
"...the author is pumping out multiple books a year, it just isn't worth my time to keep going since I will clearly never catch up."
"... it felt almost stereotypical Irish. How many Irish references can we work in? Look we’re soooo Irish."
"After all these books and we are supposed to believe only two years has passed seems a little ridiculous and makes me feel cheated."
"who made roarke and eve so plastic and yuppie/huggy?"
"Really??? 31 books over a course of two years? 2058-2060 Really? Can't you like turn the clock ahead after say five books?"
But, as usual, we do have some really good reviews from people who see that Eve has actually grown, and that Eve is actually a thoughtful and kind person.
    Enjoy the Episode!

  • F-You, Bob! We Discuss Nora Roberts' "Identity" with Listener Michelle Kenyon!
In this episode, we talk with our listener Michelle Kenyon again! You might remember Michelle from the episode we did in October of 2022 about Eve's Fear of Tech. This week, AJ and Jen are talking with Michelle about the Nora Roberts stand alone suspense novel, "Identity."
We all loved this book and feel that it feels more like one of Nora's classic suspense novels like Jen and Michelle's favorite: Birthright.
This book is about Morgan Albright who, as she was just starting to put down roots and build a life in Baltimore, she was duped by a man, Gavin Rozwell, who gained access to her home and computer, and in doing so, stole her identity. He intended to also kill Morgan, but killed her roommate instead.
After having her life and finances upended by the identity theft, Morgan decides to leave Baltimore and start over again by moving in with her mother and grandmother in their home in Vermont. She gets a new job at a ski resort owned by the prominent Jameson family, and develops a relationship with Miles Jameson, who is the oldest Jameson son.
Morgan is slowly piecing her life back together, but is still haunted by the man who stole her identity. Gavin Rozwell sees Morgan as "The One That Got Away," and is making it clear that he is working his way back to her to finish the job.
What we found interesting about this book is that even though other Nora books are more gruesome in terms of the murders committed, this book seems more disturbing due to the identity theft and how Rozwell so thoroughly ruins Morgan's life.
We really enjoyed this book, and we highly recommend it!
At the end of the podcast we mention that we have set up a Go Fund Me account to help with Jen's expenses due to her breast cancer diagnosis, and also for AJ to help pay the vet bills she incurred while trying to save Hoover from his rattlesnake attack. If you can donate, we would really appreciate the help.
    Thanks!

  • Cocks and Balls - We Review "Indulgence in Death"
In this episode of Podcast in Death, we are reviewing "Indulgence in Death"! Of the three of us, only Jen has read this book more than once. AJ and Tara only read it once when it first came out, and never read it again. BUT...as with many of the books in this series that we have read so far, we all found that we really liked and appreciated this book so much more on a second (for Jen: third? fourth? fifth?) read.
Of course the beginning of this book goes down in "In Death" history as being one of the best written openings of any book of the series. Eve and Roarke are on their second anniversary trip and they decide to stop by Ireland and spend a few days with Roarke's family. There are a lot of unexpected cock jokes, and the thought of Roarke driving a tractor, which we all just love. Eve gives Roarke his anniversary gift here because it is a brand new playground dedicated to the memory of Roarke's mother. Brian Kelly makes an appearance, and Roarke's cousin Shawn finds a dead body. Eve helps teach both Shawn and the rookie cop that is called out to the murder how to properly investigate the murder and give justice to the victim.
Back home in New York, Eve catches an unusual case where a limo driver was killed by a crossbow. Shortly after, a high-end licensed companion is murdered with a bayonet. Eve quickly surmises that the two murders are connected. Both link to two rich bored scumballs killing people they had a grudge against as some kind of weird competition. It is in some ways a lot like "Seduction in Death," but in most ways not.
We love the scene where Roarke purposely sets up a golf game with one of his clients, David Su, who is amazing here, just so that he can get the bad guys to play against him. The "rich bros" try to cheat with radio controlled balls, then Roarke uses his own device to manipulate their balls, so that he and Su win the game, which gives Roarke a lot of satisfaction but really pisses off the bad guys. Lots of jokes about manipulated balls in this episode.
Overall, another great addition to the series.
