  • Bad Guys & Good Guys & Sex - We Review the Reviews of "Missing in Death"
In this version of "We Review the Reviews," we are talking about "Missing in Death," which was a novella and part of an anthology. The problem with this is that it was never a stand alone book. BUT...there was a stand alone audio recording. This concept was apparently REALLY difficult for some people to understand as some reviewers felt that their ONLY option was an audio book, because they don't know how to search for stuff on Amazon. So, people who wouldn't normally listen to the audio are pissed that they listened to the audio and they didn't like Susan Ericksen. SO...this episode is a little Susan Ericksen heavy.
We have another "author" doing a one star review, and we hate it. Especially when the "author" accuses Susan Ericksen of not doing her research, but it turns out the reviewer didn't do THEIR research.
We also talk about reviewers who:
Don't understand how Roarke knows so many people
Think that Eve is so "black and white" that she would never let a killer go free (The Avril's anyone?)
Didn't like "revisiting early Roarke" when he was a "pigheaded shit" about the HSO
Think this book had none of the regular "sparkle or whit," but that Susan Ericksen is amazing as usual
And of course, "too much sex"
But, we also have some great reviews:
One where the reviewer says that this series helps her break out of a reading slump and that Eve is strong and badass.
One where a reviewer said the book has "wonderful character development"
One who says, "as usual, the audio was excellent"
One who says, "I usually hate the novellas, but loved this one"
One who says the novel was consistent and believable and fun.
And one that says "you'll definitely get 'Lost' in this story."
    Enjoy Everyone!

  • The Fonzarelli Fix: “In Death” Tropes Part II
This week we are giving you Part II of our deep dive into the TVTropes.org website! So many of these tropes are tropes about Eve, a fair amount are about Roarke, but we’re surprised that more of these tropes that fit Rayleen Straffo don’t mention Rayleen Straffo. We get a [...]

  • The Fonzarelli Fix: "In Death" Tropes Part II
This week we are giving you Part II of our deep dive into the TVTropes.org website!
So many of these tropes are tropes about Eve, a fair amount are about Roarke, but we're surprised that more of these tropes that fit Rayleen Straffo don't mention Rayleen Straffo.
We get a bit annoyed by how the site characterizes a "Love Triangle," because their example of this is Eve/Roarke/Webster, and we don't think that is actually a "Love Triangle." The REAL "Love Triangle" in this series is Peabody/McNab/Charles.
"The Fonzarelli Fix" (when you hit an object to get it to work - Eve) is one of our favorites, as is "Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane," "Minor Crime Reveals Major Plot," "Parental Sexuality Squick,"

  • Eve is a Sarcastic Bitch - We Review "Missing in Death" by J.D. Robb
This week AJ and Tara review "Missing in Death," the novella that was originally part of the "The Lost" anthology. Both AJ and Tara, for whatever reason, liked this story a lot more this time around.
Since most of the novellas up to this point have had some sort of supernatural element, you expect that here, and it does seem like it's headed that way, but in the end, it's not at all supernatural.
There's a lot of fun moments with Eve and Peabody, especially Peabody getting hit on and Eve being a sarcastic bitch about that. Which we both really enjoy.
There's a bit of continuing HSO controversy in this one, but it's resolved quickly. Also, there is a bit of a controversial ending.

  • Empress of Contemporary Fiction - We Review the Reviews of "Kindred in Death"
This week we review the reviews of "Kindred in Death." As we know it was hard for us to read, so you can only imagine how hard it was for people who write bad reviews. The number of times we say that people are just dumb is off the charts on this episode.
We learn in this episode that if you are seeing a book in a bad light, but most other people feel it's a good book, instead of being surprised that people don't see things like you see them, maybe you should consider that you are wrong.
We go on a little rant about authors who give one star reviews of other author's work.
We have an asshole who thinks something in this book says that Nora is "stuck on herself." (fuck you, Charlie)
Some people need to stop being Coke elitists. People are allowed to like things you don't like.
Also...You can't just check someone's cell phone records and solve a case.
Of course we have to have at least one "Ghostwriter" accusation.
On the plus side, we love all the reviewers who love Mrs Mimoto, were happy for Charles and Louise's wedding, even though we don't get much of that, and one who says: "If the US had an equivalent title to the "Dame of the British Empire" that was given to Agatha Christie, Nora Roberts would have earned it for sure!" So, we used ChatGPT to come up with some similar titles for Nora including "Empress of Contemporary Fiction."
Lastly, in a nice surprise, we have a reviewer giving Susan Ericksen a good review, but also drops in a shoutout to Podcast in Death, and we are here for it!!

  • “In Death” Stage and Screen
Hey, Everyone! We came up with a really interesting topic for you this week! You know how occasionally, Nora talks about movies or tv shows (vids) or stage productions from Eve and Roarke’s time and they know what those things are (well, maybe Eve doesn’t), but those of us reading [...]

  • A Yellow Thing – We Review “Kindred in Death”
Hi, Everyone! In this episode, we are reviewing “Kindred in Death,” which, to be honest, is pretty graphic in comparison to a lot of the other books in this series. The first murder is a very brutal rape/murder and Nora added a lot of detail, so it’s really hard to [...]
