  • Susan Ericksen is F***ing with People - We Review Survivor in Death
This is our longest episode ever, everyone!
This book is ultimately about not just being a survivor, but how people survive, especially after the loss of a loved one. We see this play out not only with Nixie, but with Eve surviving the death of her father, Roarke surviving the death of his mother, Summerset surviving the death of his daughter. This is a really dense book about great loss and how people cope with that.
Besides this being a very dense book where a lot goes on, there are several weird glitches that happen between the book and the audiobook. So much so that we wonder if maybe Susan Ericksen is f***ing with people. We do know that it probably is not that, but that's our new head canon now.
Also part of our new head canon:
Roarke secretly sends bags of coffee to members of the NYPSD, with the understanding they will never tell Eve.
Summerset has to follow Eve and Roarke around with Lysol and a Black Light.
Summerset has a special droid to specifically go in every day to change and wash Eve and Roarke's sheets, but also to sanitize the holo-room and gym.
This is one of the only books in the series that makes pretty much everyone who is a fan of this series ugly cry. The scene where Eve and Roarke take Nixie to the morgue so she can say good-bye to her family is rough, and we had to stop talking about it, or we would have had ourselves ugly crying on the episode.
Roarke and Eve both do some really dumb stuff in this book, but some really good stuff like bringing Mavis in to meet Nixie and  giving Nixie a new family.
And, like Eve, we all say: Thank God for Summerset.

  • Hey, Kool-Aid! We talk about Eve’s Circle of Friends
Mavis was Eve’s first real friend. But…was she…? We do know that in order to be Eve’s first BFF, Mavis had to burst into Eve’s life like the Kool-Aid Man, and then never let Eve rebuild that wall. Also, Roarke did kind of the same thing, but instead of busting [...]

  • Hey, Kool-Aid! We talk about Eve's Circle of Friends
Mavis was Eve’s first real friend. But…was she…?
We do know that in order to be Eve’s first BFF, Mavis had to burst into Eve’s life like the Kool-Aid Man, and then never let Eve rebuild that wall.
Also, Roarke did kind of the same thing, but instead of busting through a wall, he just used the master key that he had because he owned her building and walked in. (Which is kind of sketchy, but… what are you gonna do?)
As for Peabody, she pretty much Facebook stalked Eve, so, when they had the opportunity to work together, Peabody does whatever she can to impress Eve and subsequently become her friend and partner.
Speaking of Peabody, her speech at Eve’s bachelorette party, was epic, and that whole scene is one of our very favorite moments in the books.
Mira is in a way like Mavis or Roarke. She didn’t burst into Eve’s life, but she stepped into it firmly and then would not allow Eve to back away.
With Nadine and Louise, we feel like Eve kind of sees herself a little bit in both of them, so, it makes sense that she would become good friends with both of them.
At first, Eve’s circle of friends seem like they don’t go together, but they really mesh well. They are all career driven and smart and ambitious. Sure, they’re all girly, and Eve doesn’t get that, but she’s willing to go with it.
This is very evident in Louise’s bachelorette party that features makeovers and skinny-dipping and the conversation about what animals each of their significant others are, which horrifies Eve. This scene is another favorite scene from the series. But so is the scene the next morning where all of these Smart Girls help Eve with her case over breakfast.
We also talk about an email we got about the Audio Books and how Susan Ericksen does Peabody’s voice, and we have a bit of a discussion about that.

  • Crusty Woman: We Review the Reviews of "Visions in Death"
For some weird reason, there were not a lot of good reviews for “Visions in Death.” Only a few One Star reviews, and most were boring. Pretty much all the reviews we saw were boring. So, we try hard to make this an entertaining episode for you.
As per usual, we have the people who are tired of hearing about Eve’s past or say Eve has not grown as a character, people who think there’s too much sex in the books. Also:
Eve is a Crusty Woman, but softens up by the end of the book
Nora’s dialogue is “Lame and Goofy”
How many serial killers ARE there in New York?!
If you MUST read this book, get it from the library
    I didn’t really FEEL this book…
Why is Roarke even WITH Eve?
That twist at the end was a nasty, dirty trick
    Basically…People are the worst.
BUT…can we say: YES, Reviewer, we agree: the “Neon” book covers are AWFUL!!

  • Heart Flutter TM - We Review Visions in Death
In this episode, we review “Visions in Death,” and there is a LOT to talk about in this book, so this is a 2 hour episode.
This is a book about overcoming and strength of character and restraint and also relationships.
We don’t understand why Eve doesn’t keep a change of clothes in Roarke’s car or airplane? That way, when you get called to a crime scene in Central Park, you don’t have to climb around on rocks in heels.
The murderer in this book is taking his victims eyes and we’re all pretty creeped out by that. Jen thinks that “eye stuff” and “mouth stuff” is gross.
This book is also a good Roarke book. He did all the right things and made it through the whole book without pissing us off.
We love that Mavis asks Eve and Roarke to be her backup coaches for her delivery, and they panic a bit about that.
Jen loves when Eve takes on the muscle guys in Jim’s Gym, but she cautions against bench pressing your own weight.
Peabody drops the bombshell on McNab that she never slept with Charles.
We find out that Tara would not eat the last cookie if she was out to lunch with friends, but if, instead it was pie or tiramisu, she would be all over the last piece.
Eve finally tells Peabody about her past, and we love how Peabody is so open and supportive.
Then the murderer comes after Peabody and puts Peabody in the hospital, which is horrifying for everyone. BUT…Peabody under the influence of pain meds is one of the funniest scenes in the entire series.
The book ends with them catching the killer, but then there’s a surprise ending!
We really love this book, and we hope you all really love this episode.
    Enjoy!

  • A Not So Brief Briefing Room
We're technically on vacation, but there was a day in these past few weeks that we still needed to get together and talk anyway. This episode was supposed to just be a short Briefing Room, and it ended up being 2 Hours, because it's us!
