  • "That's Bullshit, But Okay..." - We Review "Remember When"
In this episode, we review “Remember When.” As we’ve said before, this books was meant to be a “cross pollinator” for Nora Roberts fans to possibly bring them to the Dark Side of J.D. Robb.
The book is split into two sections…the first being the Nora Roberts story, and the second being the J.D. Robb Story. Later, these would be broken up into two paperbacks: “Hot Rocks” and “Big Jack.” This was a huge controversy at the time because people ended up buying the paperbacks thinking they were new, but they were not.
    Anyway…
The story starts out with Laine Tavish who is the daughter of a con man and thief, “Big” Jack O’Hara. She’s made a new life for herself with a new name and now owns an antique store. Her father’s old partner, Willy, walks into the store and says he needs to speak with her immediately. Laine does not recognize him. He leaves his phone number and leaves, then immediately gets hit by a car. Laine runs out to help Willy, and then realizes who he is. Willy tells her to “Hide the pooch.” Then he dies.
Later, an insurance investigator, Max Gannon comes to town. He has been following Willy because Willy and Jack O’Hara have pulled off a diamond heist, and Max is working to get the diamonds back. He and Laine become involved (after less than a day) and then work together to recover the diamonds.
We all generally love this story. It moves pretty quickly for a typical Nora romance, but we’re here for it. We absolutely love all the characters, especially Laine’s best friend Jenny and her husband, Chief of Police Vince Berger.
The second part of the story is 50 years in the future. Laine and Max’s granddaughter, Samantha Gannon, has written a book all about the story of her grandparents and the diamonds. She comes home after a book tour, and finds that her friend, Andrea who was housesitting for her, is dead in her home. Eve is called in to investigate that murder.

  • "As Long as They Don't Have Tattoos, It's Fine." – Halloween Show 2021
    Happy Halloween, Everyone!
In this episode, in honor of Halloween, we’re talking about some of the Scary/Spooky moments in the “In Death” series.
Thank you to Yvonne, Book Dragon, Tara, Rosalia, Dana and all the rest of you who gave us your input.
    Scary moments include:
Roarke almost falling off of the top of the Statue of Liberty
Eve and Roarke scrambling to get out of the Icove Building before it blew up
Eve attacked by Isaac McQueen in “New York to Dallas”
The entire squad was almost blown up by Lottie in “Obsession”
Eve and Feeney being held hostage by Holloway
Peabody in the shower overhearing Oberman and Garnett
Eve trapped in a room with Alban in “Ceremony”
Eve scrambling to get to Roarke before he used the VR glasses in “Rapture”
    Scariest Villans include:
    Rayleen Straffo
    Isaac McQueen
    Willow Mackie
    Gina McMillan
    John Blue
    Robert Lowell
    David Palmer
    Sylvester Yost.
For spooky moments, we mostly look at the Novellas:
Eve and Roarke first seeing the ghost of Bobbie
Eve confronting the “vampire,” Dorian (then sticking her finger in his glass of blood and sucking the blood off her finger…gross)
Eve, Roarke and Isis performing the cleansing ritual in the hotel room where the ritual murder happened
Eve being possessed, but also her seeing dead people.
The doctor in Chaos changing into a monster in front of Eve.
We also give our thoughts on what some of the characters in the books would dress up as for a Halloween party. Eve and Roarke as either Bonnie and Clyde or a Cop and a Convict, Mr and Mrs Mira would dress as something really classic like Robin Hood and Maid Marion and Peabody and McNab as Anna and Kristoff from Frozen?
Let us know your thoughts on what you think each of the characters would dress as!!
We find out that while Jen totally believes in the paranormal, Eve having a tattoo on her ankle while possessed would NEVER happen!! AJ believes in none of the paranormal stuff, but still finds reading about it creepy. Tara finds it all creepy, but also, it’s all fine.

  • "Good Job Pooping!": We Review the Reviews of "Forgotten in Death"
    Hey, Everyone!

It’s time once again for everyone’s favorite podcast episode: We Review the Reviews! This week, we review the reviews of “Forgotten in Death” and there are some really crappy reviews for this one!

We actually start off a bit differently than normal by talking about a horrible review that Nora got on her own blog on a post that publicist Laura created for discussion of “Forgotten.” Click here for the link to see all the awfulness. I mean…calm down, Jan!

UPDATE…we didn’t look at the actual thread when we talked about this comment, so we didn’t see that after Nora ripped Jan a new one, Jan actually did apologize! So, good job, Jan!

After that, there are just a TON of “is Nora even writing these anymore?” comments, some comments about Nora putting her own politics into the books, and only one about the boring, yet passionate sex. Also, the weirdest review we have ever read.

We have someone who felt there wasn’t enough interaction with “Summerfield” and someone “disappointed, almost cheated.” To which Jen said: “Good Job, Pooping!” Which seems appropriate since most of these reviews are crap.

As usual, there’s the obligatory Susan Ericksen review that got AJ pissed off, but one sensible person who says “Susan Ericksen’s audio never fails. WOW!”

Look people: Susan Ericksen’s Roarke voice is pretty spot on, but don’t take my word for it, watch this promotional video for the series “Leonardo” that Aidan Turner starred in where he is interviewed, and listen to his accent. He sounds Irish about 50% of the time.

Also, Jen is a bit perturbed that none of the reviews mention Jake’s ass.

WE NEED YOUR HELP FOR NEXT WEEK’S SHOW! Give us your Top 10 Scary or Spooky moments in the “In Death” Series!

Durning the last part of the show, we discuss how AO3 seems to be progressing with the importing of the InDeath.net fan fics, and the first part of our collection has been imported and is ready for reading! For right now, they are hidden from public view, but if you have an AO3 account, you can see them. They should be unlocked and ready for public view sometime in early November. Here’s the link:

  • Dick in the First Chapter: We Talk with Author S.J. Tilly about Sex in the "In Death" Series!
This week we talk with contemporary romance author and J.D. Robb fan: S.J. Tilly! She is the author of the “Sleet” and “Sin” series of books, and she’s super cool.
Her books are super-sexy, so we thought she would be the perfect person to talk to about sex in romance books including the “In Death” series. How is sex used to further the plot, or show character growth.
We think you will find this episode really interesting, and we look forward to hearing your thoughts about it!

  • Horny Old People - We Review "Forgotten in Death" by J.D. Robb
This week we are reviewing “Forgotten in Death,” Book #53 in the “In Death” series by J.D. Robb, and our impressions of this book are mixed. Jen and Tara liked the book a lot, and AJ thought it was good but not great. BUT…admittedly, AJ likes the more “action packed” books, and “Forgotten in Death” is more of an emotional journey.
We talk about how we think there are some markers in recent books (including this one) that might indicate that Nora might have an “end game” in mind for this series, and it slowly starting to tie up some things.
A lot of this book had Eve very introspective. There’s a lot of good Peabody moments and some great Eve and Roarke “married” moments.
We think this book is VERY 2020 in that there is an underlying theme the patriarchy treating women like trash, and punishing powerful people who are using their power to destroy others.
Also, we think that when Eve and Roarke get to be Yuri and Marta Bardov’s age, they will be horny old people.
Also…Does Nora listen to our podcast?? Probably not, but we want to believe she is.
