This month, we’ve been looking at holistic, complementary and alternative therapies for horses. We’ve met holistic healer Jo Rose and Ian Thirkell, the man behind Arc Equine and we’ve talked about Zoopharmacognosy with Joanna Haslam.
In this episode, we meet a lady that has a gift for communicating with animals. She grew up with dogs and horses and remembers first communicating with a horse at the age of 10-years-old. She trained as a healer with what is now known as The Healing Trust 21-years-ago and developed her spiritual understanding and view of the world by attending workshops and courses ranging from soul development and shamanism to crystal and colour healing. She is a qualified teacher, and a trained Equine Assisted Psychotherapist, but she joined us to talk about her experiences as a horse whisperer. Listen to Karen Lyon talk about what animals tell her, how they tell her and how she translates their messages for their owners, and what Katie's Lusitano Biba (Ibéria) told her. (Note: The only thing Karen knew about Katie's horse was that she could be a little contrary. This was the first time she had met Biba.).
Hop over to subscribe to our YouTube channel to watch Karen communicating with Katie's Lusitano mare, Biba, and find out what Biba the Diva had to say!

As horse owners, we have all felt the sadness and frustration when our beloved companions are poorly or lame. Desperate to help them, the majority of us will resort to baked beans to afford large vet bills and a steady stream of physio appointments. Now, we would not advocate anyone failing to consult their vet on their horse’s health, but this month we are looking at how we can support our horses holistically and with complimentary therapies. So far, we’ve met holistic healer Jo Rose and Ian Thirkell, the man behind Arc Equine.
This time, we meet Jo Haslem to delve deeper in to applied zoopharmacognosy, or, to you and me, self selection of herbs to self medicate. Find out how your horse can help themselves, and the properties of some of the herbs Jo works with.
Hop over to You Tube and subscribe to Poles, Piaffe & Prosecco Podcast and watch Jo work with Katie's pony, Clover, who suffers with skin conditions. It's fascinating, especially as foody Clover refuses certain herbs!

Last week, Katie and Tania we kicked off alternative and holistic therapies month last week, and this week we are meeting the man behind a device that you’ll find in tack rooms up and down the country, and the story behind it is really quite unique.
Those of you that have had horses with lameness and used this device will be glad that this gentleman left his career in the police force to become a house husband to raise his children and to support his wife in her bid to go to university. But who am I talking about, and what does that have to do with horses, I hear you cry? Well, it was this bold move that led to his wife beginning a PhD in micro current technology, which led to - you’ve guessed it - the birth of the inimitable Arc Equine. This week we find out all about how the Arc came into being with its founder, Ian Thirkell.
There's more training tips from Tania, and we try another Prosecco.

It's a new month and this month, Katie and Tania delve into the world of complimentary and holistic therapies. As we approach the winter months, our animals - like us - often start to feel their ailments a little, and while there is no replacement for veterinary medicine, there is much we can do to support it and to complement it. This month we are focussing on exactly that, and looking at ways to keep our horses comfortable and healthy with minimal intervention.
has studied a wide range of holistic therapies, including reiki, applied zoopharmacognosy, McTimoney therapy, Merishia massage, Myofascial release, kinesiology taping and thermal imaging amongst others. Not only does she practice these therapies, but she also teaches so you too can help your horse. Find out all about these therapies and how you can help your horse in this episode.
As always, Tania answers your training questions and we try and new Prosecco!
