Ilise also discusses how this changed her life and her wellbeing, how she reclaimed the trauma by becoming a fire performer and how this experience became a huge part of her origin story and the woman she’s become.
Ilise S. Carter is an author, journalist, and consulting copywriter to the beauty industry, and sideshow performer based in New York City. She has written for Allure, New York Times, Racked, Wall Street Journal, and others, with a focus on pop culture. Her first book, The Red Menace: How Lipstick Changed the Face of American History released in 2021.
