*sings* HEY HEY IT'S A PODCAST! AND THIS WEEK, I WILL MONKEE AROUND! CUZ I'M TOO BUSY RANKIN' TO PUT ANYBODY DOOOOOWWWWWNNNNN!
And now that I got that out of my system, I can get on with the brief summary on this week. It started with a casting call for a series that spoofed the Beatles 1964 film debut "A Hard Day's Night". 55 years later, the Monkees are still a worldwide phenomenon with MILLIONS of albums sold, a hugely devoted fanbase, and sell-out shows continuing long after their heyday in the 60s. I have never been so excited about sharing a podcast with you than I have about this one. Listening to this band's work for years and watching their TV show in reruns has always put a smile on my face and a laugh out of me on many occasions. And with the remaining members recently announcing their disbandment this year with a farewell tour, this also makes this episode bittersweet. I'll have all of you people know two things:
1. I was a Monkees fan BEFORE I was ever a Beatles fan
2. The Monkees NEED TO BE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ALREADY!!!
This week, I have the super fun task of ranking the 12 albums released by Davy Jones, Mickey Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. Get on board the "Last Train to Clarksville" before this "Pleasant Valley Sunday" and maybe when this episode is all said and done, you'll actually "Listen to the Band" after this! :)
