  • RRR 78RPM Show – February 18, 2018

Welcome to Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78RPM records of the 1920s and’30s.

Our family is fond of the phrase “It’s all about the stories.” And on this week’s edition of the show I’ll tell you one my favorite family stories. We haven’t had a vocabulary lesson on the show in a while, but this week we start off with one. We’ll also have some musical bouquets and a set of sorry records. They’re really good records, they just have “sorry” in the title. There are at least a couple of records making their RRR debut. If you enjoy the show, please let us know by leaving a comment on the website or the Facebook page or sending an email to [email protected]. . And remember, your requests and topic segments are always welcome. As always, just click on the link below to instantly listen streaming online and/or download the show. Best wishes for a safe. healthy, happy and exceptionally prosperous New Year.

I had hoped to do this week’s show live from the newly transformed KISL studio complex in City Park, Avalon, Santa Catalina Island, California, but unfortunately, the new equipment is not quite fully functional. The studio is undergoing a remarkable metamorphosis and I will post pictures and do a live show just as soon as possible. Regardless you still get a top-notch recorded show here. This week we’ll take it *and* leave it, have a fine how do you do, play some cardiac songs and play some songs about the acetabulofemoral joint. If you’re not am orthopedic surgeon or chiropractor, just listen to the show to find out what that is. Welcome to Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78RPM records of the 1920s and’30s.

I do my best to do thorough research on the records, artists and composers presented on the show, but every once in a while, I’ll get something wrong or butcher a name. When that happens I’m happy to admit an error and try to set the record straight. Such was the case last week when the final segment of the show started off with “Oh Gee! Oh Joy!” by what my notes and sources said was the Pelham Health Inn Orchestra. Turns out that was not the name of the Inn and in the first segment of this week’s show, I’ll explain exactly what happened. In addition to the first segment having to do with “health,” we’ll just “do it,” celebrate Seymour Simons’ birthday, do some crawling and take musical trips to Tennessee, St. Louis and points west. • The First RRR of 2018!

Welcome to Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78RPM records of the 1920s and’30s.

As you know, last week’s show was an “encore” presentation of the December 30, 2007 show because I was down most of the week following Christmas with a rather severe cold. I’m happy to say I recovered enough to have a quiet but pleasant New Year celebration at home and am now feeling almost 100%. Christmas being not just a day but a season, I had it all planned out to continue the season with a new show consisting of songs having to do with merriment, jollity, happiness, joy and cheer. So for this first RRR show of 2018, here’s the show that was supposed to be on last week.

    Enjoy the show!

  • RRR Happy New Year 2018

Welcome to Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78RPM records of the 1920s and’30s.

Christmas being not just a day but a season, I had it all planned out to continue the season with a new show consisting of songs having to do with merriment, jollity, happiness, joy and cheer. But alas, Mother Nature had other plans, namely, that I should come down with a severe cold the day after Christmas which has kept me literally flat on my back and without solid food until today. So, this week’s show is a reprise of the show from New Year’s Eve 2007. For many of you it will be new, and even if you heard it all those 11 years ago, it holds up and is worth hearing again. Around this time of the year, a number of composers and artists don’te get featured so that we can present vintage Christmas music. So this week we’ll be celebrating the birthdays of Oscar Levant, Kid Ory, Ted FioRito, Nat Shilkret and Cab Calloway. If you enjoy the show, please let us know by leaving a comment on the website or the Facebook page or sending an email to [email protected]. . And remember, your requests and topic segments are always welcome. As always, just click on the link below to instantly listen streaming online and/or download the show.
