In this edition of Locked on Capitals Dan talks about the movement before the deadline with the Capitals. Tuesday Rasmus Sandin got traded to the Capitals and sent Erik Gustafsson and a 2023 first-round pick to Toronto. John Carlson was the only Caps blueline under contract after this season. Sandin is a left-handed shot who has four goals and 20 points through 52 games this season for the Maple Leafs. He looks to be an upgrade for the Capitals. The move to send Gustafsson to Toronto was a hard one Gustafsson departs the District as the team's fourth-leading scorer with 38 points (seven goals, 31 assists), and his plus-9 is tied with Trevor van Riemsdyk for the best mark on the team. The Capitals are also once again moving Marcus Johansson. This time back to Minnesota in exchange for a third-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft. The versatile Johansson, capable of playing any forward position and on both special teams, totaled three goals and six points in 18 games with the Caps last season, and Washington resigned the popular Swede to a one-year deal at $1.1 million last July.
