For our third episode of Read Between the Wines, we're back at it—popping corks and busting myths like there’s no tomorrow. After tackling part one of our two-part series, we figured it was time to roll up our sleeves and get back into the thick of it. That’s right, it’s Mythbusters: Wine Edition, Part II—where we take aim at the next round of so-called “wine wisdom” that’s been circulating at dinner parties and wine bars since, well, probably forever. Some of these myths have been passed down like ancient wine lore, while others are still peddled by those self-proclaimed wine gurus who think they know best. Either way, we're here to separate the fact from the fiction with a good dose of wit and common sense. So, pour yourself a glass (no need for expensive stemware, trust us on this), and let’s get cracking.
Here’s what we’ll be decanting in this episode:
7. Expensive stemware is a big scam – Do you really need to fork out for fancy glasses to enjoy your wine? Spoiler: no. Unless, of course, you’re also into designer Tupperware.
8. Decanting is only for old and expensive wines – If you think decanting is reserved for dusty bottles and high-end labels, we’ve got news for you. Even that mid-week Malbec could use some air.
9. Blended wines are inferior – Whoa, slow down there! Before you shun that blend, let’s not forget some of the world’s finest wines are blends. Variety is the spice of life, after all.
10. Always drink white wine cold and red wine warm – If you’ve been shivering your whites and sweltering your reds, we’re here to set the temperature record straight.
11. Legs in a wine glass are a good indicator of great wine – Ah, the classic leg myth. Turns out, those streaks on the glass tell you more about alcohol content than they do about wine quality.
12. Always have red wine with red meat and white wine with fish or poultry – Time to break out of those rigid pairing rules! The wine police aren’t coming for you, and yes, you can have white wine with steak if that’s what floats your boat.
So, get ready to learn, and leave behind those outdated notions. By the end of this episode, you’ll be armed with the knowledge to enjoy wine on your terms—myth-free and fabulous. Cheers to that!
