KILLER CASTING PODCAST - “From Franco to Fidel” This week Lisa sits down with legendary casting director Carla Hool and multi hyphenate actor/producer/casting director Elaine Del Valle to discuss authenticity in representation on screen and why it is so important to not just the Latin and Hispanic communities but to ALL communities in 2022. We also breakdown and analyze comedian Bill Maher’s now famous rant about “woke” casting and his commentary castigating actor John Leguizamo for daring to voice his opinion on the casting of actor James Franco as Fidel Castro in the indie film “Alina of Cuba”. In 2015, Casey Hammer, the only grand-daugher of billionaire businessman Armand Hammer, self published a memoir called "Surviving My Birthright," where she shared shocking secrets of the violence, addiction and abuse growing up in the powerful Hammer family. Despite her compelling story, no-one paid Casey's disclosures much attention until years later when her nephew, actor and Hollywood Golden Boy, Armie Hammer, made headlines with his increasingly bizarre, violent text messages, Tiktok videos and domestic abuse allegations from his former intimate partners -- which led to the new three part docu series on Discovery plus "House of Hammer".

Jim and Laura forensically deconstruct Hammer's disturbing behavior and the details revealed by several women who found themselves targeted by him.

Note: Armie Hammer has not been charged with a crime and he denies any allegation of abuse or rape and his lawyers have said that “any interactions” with any person were consensual.

When Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus released their book "Hope: A Memoir of Survival in Cleveland", which recounted in excruciating detail their decade of captivity at the hands of pedophile serial rapist abuser Arial Castro, every news outlet clamored to be the first to interview them. BBC producer Sam McAlister, incredibly moved and haunted by their horrifying case, knew she wanted to give them a chance to tell their story on "Newsnight". So she did what she did best, after meticulous research she gave the publishers her best pitch, and assurance that Amanda and Gina would be given the "dignity and compassion" to share their experience. Join us as Sam tells us about that interview and the very emotional connections she made with their story.

To the outside world, Burt Templet seemed a devoted husband and father — as well as a successful businessman and generous provider for his family. So when his 17 year old son Anthony shot him in the head, in their Baton Rouge, Louisiana home, the community was shocked.  Many assumed that this was a murder in cold blood by a ruthless entitled teenager who lacked all emotion. But what if the opposite were actually true? What if Anthony was a long suffering victim, who finally defended himself from a serial abuser?  This is the question at the heart of the Netflix three part documentary “I Just Killed My Dad”.  Laura and Jim analyze the red flag behavior in this case, which has some huge twists and turns. Join us.

Who is the most hated man on the internet? Wouldn’t he just love for us to tell you his name. But we aren’t going to. Instead we are going to shout out Charlotte Laws, a mother and a campaigner who fought to have photos of her daughter taken down from a website that prided itself on so-called “revenge porn” and ruining people’s lives.

Jim and Laura analyze the three part Netflix series “The Most Hated Man on the Internet”, pinpointing the psychopathic characteristics of an offender who reveled in the humiliation and exploitation of his victims.

Laura explains why the term “revenge porn” is not appropriate and Jim & Laura discuss why it should be a federal crime. You won’t want to miss this.

On July 24th, 1984, Brenda Lafferty and her 15 month old daughter Erica were brutally murdered in their American Fork, Utah home. Their deaths shocked this small, tight knit community of largely Latter Day Saints church members who could not imagine such a crime occurring in their town. What shocked them further was the identity of the killers.

In the best selling book "Under The Banner of Heaven" investigative journalist Jon Krakaur dug deep into Brenda and Erica's case, and provided the extraordinary historical context that (he believes) led the killers to target an innocent young mother and her child. Now, Academy Award winning screenwriter, Dustin Lance Black has adapted the story for a Hulu series starring Daisy Edgar Jones as Brenda and Andrew Garfield as the detective who is sworn to bring her killers to justice. Join us as we analyse the case and compare fact to fiction.
