"People might not understand how trauma can show up, so they can end up  re-traumatizing their clients because they're not aware that there's trauma coming up".

Today I wanted to do a special episode on the fast-paced and evolving world of coaching. The importance of addressing personal trauma and maintaining integrity within client-practitioner relationships cannot be overstated. As we delve deeper into the realms of consciousness and personal growth, it becomes crucial to bring awareness to the dynamics at play and the impact they have on both parties involved.

To me, there's a big need for practitioners to be aware of their own traumas, beliefs, and biases to prevent projecting them onto clients.

There are subtle power dynamics that can arise in coaching relationships, including seeking external validation, creating celebrity-fan dynamics, and unintentionally fostering a cult-like environment. I think it's crucial to reflect on our interactions and identify any unmet needs or unresolved wounds that may be influencing the relationship dynamics.

“It’s you…it’s your special medicine that’s helping the people. It’s not so much about the tools that you learn or the knowledge that you gain.”  

Today I have Dr. Leah Taylor with me, who is a dear client of mine, and an amazing professional. She explains part of her journey like this: “From a very young age, I noticed a disconnect between my mind and body. I felt proud of my head, but when I looked down at the rest of my body, I didn’t recognize it as my own. My journey home to myself started with live music. Blown apart by the percussive beats of Rusted Root, it was my first spiritual experience and the first time I fully felt alive and integrated in my whole body. 

I was so intrigued, I pursued a Master’s in Somatic Psychology and a Ph.D. in Mind-Body Medicine to learn about how our bodies work in an integrative way and what an experience like live music means for our healing and wellness. Even though I pursued the professional path of a therapist, I always knew my work and my own healing was bigger than what could fit in a small session room. I knew it was the things I did every day, not once a week for 50 mins, that would make the biggest impact on my life.” 

This is when she decided to come into my world and realized she needed to clear old programming in order to move forward and properly value her work and abilities.
