  • Episode 298: It Was 20 Years Ago Today...
Barry, Dave, Derryl and Tod the four Regular Joes sit down together (in four separate locations) on the twentieth anniversary of the day they all met. After some fond reflections of decades past they get down to business taking a first look at Amazon's Prime Video's mid-summer hit, The Boys. While they do their best to keep their comments SPOILER FREE it's clear why this dark take on a world where superheroes have made a big, if not necessarily positive, impact is generating a lot of buzz. With decades of comics to draw from, A Watchman series coming from HBO and Jupiter's Legacy in production ay Netflix, it looks like "capes behaving badly" is now very much a thing. All this plus Random Topics, and bonus sized edition What's in the Box ... where Tod drinks something sketchy. Check out pictures and links for our WiTB items, as well as some pics from days gone by at RegularJoes.com. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 297: "I've seen things you people wouldn't believe."
Once again it's San Diego ComicCon time. And, once again the Regular Joe's stayed on the East Coast and read about it online. This of course does not stop them from talking about it at great length. They were major announcements regarding the Marvel Cinematic ... and soon to be, Streaming Universe. Just weeks after the conclusion of MCU's Stage 3 we have the very ambitious roadmap for 2020 to 2021's Stage 4, and even some hints at what lies beyond. They was also quite a bit of Star Trek news, as Starship Captain turned vintner Jean Luc Picard Is joined by some familiar, and not so familiar, faces as he returns to episodic TV. Hear what other TV and film announcements the Joes are excited about, as well as new offerings from Hot Toys, QMx and others. Along the way we run through some random topics, and in our selfless effort to bolster the American economy, we take a look at What's in the Box. Lastly we bid farewell to a truly good movie bad guy, Rutger Hauer. • Episode 296 Extra: Buzz Aldrin Interview
As a follow up to this week's regular show all about Apollo 11 on the 50th anniversary of the historic mission, from deep in our archive we pull out this interview that Barry did with Buzz Aldrin in May of 1999, just before Hasbro released the Buzz Aldrin GI Joe figure to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Apollo 11 mission. Enjoy this ride in the way-back machine..and as always, thanks for listening!

  • Episode 296: Steely Eyed Missile Men
From the day in 1962 When John F. Kennedy famously spoke the words, "We choose to go to the moon ... " to the moment Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Micheal Collins were safely back upon the deck of the U.S.S. Hornet, N.A.S.A., and the eyes of the world, were focused on the now seemingly impossible undertaking accomplished 50 years ago this week. The regular Regular Joes are excited to have guest host Brian Mix along for this episode as we dive into all things N.A.S.A., Apollo Program and space as only four children of the sixties can do. Along the way we take a look at Todd Douglas Miller's documentary Apollo 11, which is comprised solely of archival footage, much of which has never been seen by the public. Without interviews or narration this work uses the contemporary words of N.A.S.A. personnel and reporters to tell the story as if opening a window to the past. If you haven't yet seen this documentary it airs on CNN this weekend. All this plus Random Topics, and a round of What's in the Box. To see all the items referenced in this episode check out the episode 296 tab at regularjoe's.com where you'll find photos, links, and Barry's 1999 interview with Buzz Aldrin. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 295: Peter Tingle
If you don't get the title of this week's episode you should stop now and go see Spider Man Far From Home before listening. Because yes, there will be SPOILERS. Far From Home is the 2nd collaboration between Sony Pictures (who owns the Wall Crawler's cinematic rights) and Marvel Studios (who duh, makes better Marvel films than anyone). It is also the MCU Spider Man's second Solo film ... sort of. Just as there was a heaping helping of Tony Stark in Homecoming, in this follow up we get a whole lot of Nick Fury ... or do we. Wink, wink. Like all Marvel Studio films you haven't seen everything until you wait through the very end of the credits. This time around the Marvel folks close the final chapter of their "third phase" line up with a reveal that leaves us speculating on where they will go next. All this plus Random Topics, and an update on What's on My Workbench. You can check out pics of our Workbench items at RegularJoes.com. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 294: Happy Film-iversary!
Last week we talked about 1989's Batman at 30. This week we take a look a several other films that are hitting similarly noteworthy milestones, including Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade (1989), The Matrix (1999) and Star Trek (2009). When nostalgia seems to be one of the dominant driving forces in Hollywood, just what is it that makes a film leave an indelible mark on the cinematic landscape when other. high grossing films, like and Field of Dreams (1989), The Mummy (1999) and District 9 (1999) seemingly fail to do so. All this plus Random Topics, What's in the Box, and even a round of Shirt Up. Check out pictures of our WiTB items as well as our Shirt Up choices at RegularJoes.com. Thanks for listening . . . And happy 4th of July!

  • Episode 293: …Those Wonderful Toys
In this episode the four Regular Joes assemble once more as Derryl DePriest stops in to talk about the first endeavor from Blue Milk, a creative consortium focused on high quality collector publications. Their inaugural project, Star Wars The Vintage Collection Archive Edition Book is currently up on Kickstarter, and is blowing through stretch goals like a Jedi through battle droids. Find out how you can get in on this groundbreaking volume. Next up, as we do once every thirty years or so, we take a look at Batman (1989) and, theoretically, reassess and reevaluate or thoughts regarding this seminal superhero blockbuster. Spoiler, no one's position shifts too much, but it's a good opportunity to take stock of why some of us hold this particular Bat-flick in high regard…while others not so much. All this plus the usual Random Topics and an economy sized round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 292: He, Robot
As every longtime listener knows, we love robots. From Maria in Fritz Lang's Metropolis to Star Wars BB-8, we have always been fascinated by these anthropomorphized machines. This episode's guest, West Coast based maker Brian Mix, has taken his interest much farther, actually building life sizes replicas of some of the most significant automations in Hollywood history. You'll learn all about these incredible creations as well as several of Brian's other amazing projects from Star Trek, Lost in Space, 2001 and yes, even Logan Run. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 291: Hot Toys and Luke Warm Movies
In this week's episode we talk ... until we stop. Which is, more or less similar to our previous episodes though at times there is more of an actual plan. After an opening salvo of Random Topics we have a round of What's in the Box that sent one the Joes off to search for something he did not know he needed, but now can't live without. In a Hot Toys Minute (when was this ever a minute?) the guys each profile a figure they recently added to their collections. Since Tod is apparently the only one who goes to movies now he gives two quick mostly, spoiler free, recommendations regarding Dark Phoenix (yes it as bad as they say) and Godzilla King of the Monsters - which is no more or less than what you might expect. See, no spoilers. And lastly, we sort of recognize the 30th anniversary of Star Trek V, but mostly ruminate over how some people actually claim to like it. Thanks for listening!

  • Episode 290: Now, With Even More Muftak
For this week's Episode, Barry, Dave and Tod traveled to the ultra-secret undisclosed location of the Regal Robot / Tom Spina Designs studios (which Tod could not find even with a GPS) to see some amazingly cool stuff they can't talk about and spend quality time hanging out with maker / props-smiths Tom Spina, Gordon Tarpley and David Woodruff. Inevitably, there is lots of Star Wars talk, which is impossible to avoid when you're sitting in a room with a life-size, and disturbingly hairless, Chewbacca mannequin, but also Batman and even the odd Star Trek reference. It's a wide ranging, far flung, free-for-all, as the six friends, old and new, dig deep into the nerd culture that unites as all. So, pull up a chair and join us. Thanks for listening!
