  • Resting is not lazy

As a child, whenever I was lounging around, my Mum would say 'If you're not doing something, I will find you something to do'. I recall phrases like 'Only dumb people do nothing', 'Successful people keep working' and 'Smart people are always busy', being used often.

This created a belief that in order to be good at my job, smart, intelligent, or successful, I needed to be busy all the time. Whilst I am aware of this, and have tried hard to overcome it, every now and then it creeps in. Business gets me. I forget to rest.

This was definitely the case this week. Listen to this episode to hear more one this and how to learn to rest without the guilt or worry that you are not doing a good enough job.

  • Is Quite Quitting Really That Bad?

The concept of quiet quitting is fascinating to me. How can we name something that is actually about supporting ones wellbeing in a way that implies laziness and lack of care?

What if instead we focused on setting boundaries, being clear and open with expectations, and compensated people accordingly for their time and effort instead of expecting more and more and more?

A workplace that values wellbeing, and wants staff who thrive, not just for the work they do but for the people they are, would encourage conversations that mean quiet quitting doesn't have to occur. Instead, people would feel safe enough to share what's getting in the way of their wellbeing, or when workload is too much, and leaders and managers would be open to reflecting and creating change.

    All About Paige

Paige Tan is a qualified life coach and meditation teacher who lives, works and plays on the land of the Boonwurrung people (Melbourne, Australia). She is on a mission to empower and inspire educators to live a more mindful and purposeful life, in and amongst this busy world that we live in.

Having spent 8 years in the education industry and experiencing first-hand the effects of burnout, she now teaches and supports teachers and educators to discover and unlock their strengths to connect with who they truly are and to show up as their best selves. Paige also uses meditation as a practical tool to reduce stress and overwhelm, and to connect with who they truly are and what they truly want.

Whether it’s through her 1-1 or group coaching programs, workshops, or meditation classes, Paige always weaves in the power of mindfulness and a strengths-focused approach in order to help others unlock their strengths and to use them practically in their lives, both personally and professionally. She firmly believes that every individual in this world has the potential to truly live out a life of purpose when they allow themselves to live in The Eudaimonia Way.”

  • What are you investing in?

How aware are you of the choices you make?

These words are not mine, but that of a client.

'We always have choices; either stay where you are or invest time and money to change.'

How amazing and accurate. This is the difference between taking responsibility or looking to blame, feeling as if life happens to you, or you create the life you live.

For the most, we have a choice around how we invest our time, money, and energy, and it all matters.

The Teacher Wellbeing Hub.  will teach you how to do this with intention, with your values, and in a way that makes life both in and out of the classroom easier. Join the The Teacher Wellbeing Hub.

  • Are you letting others decide your path?

This week I was talking to a podcast listener and someone who has signed up for The Teacher Wellbeing Hub. They shared with me that sighing up to The TW Hub was about not letting others decide their path, and taking responsibility for the change they were wanting to create.

I thought this was absolutely inspirational, and at this person's request, have created a podcast as to why this way of thinking is so powerful, and why it is one we should all adopt.

As mentioned in this episode, The Teacher Wellbeing Hub is now open.

  • 3 things I wish I knew before hitting burnout.

Everything you need can be found here: https://linktr.ee/amy.green

It took me a long time to realise I had occupational burnout. I denied it for so long, how could that be me when I loved my job so much?

Only now am I really able to reflect on and tell my story. I was ashamed, embarrassed, and felt like I was too good for burnout. It sounds silly I know, but on the outside, I had it all going on, together. 'How do you do it?', people would ask, truth is, I wasn't. I was slowly destroying myself.

When I think about this time there are 3 things I wish I knew, 3 behaviours I was engaging in that just didn't serve me.

If this is you too, I get it.

I often get asked how I made it out of this space. What I can share is this, it is work, time, patience, and investment, I invested in numerous coaches, gave myself permission to do things I wasn't doing, like rest, and changed my behaviors. It was really hard, and for a number of years, I had to actively work on changing these things. Even now they can creep in if I am not careful.

Finding people who can help and support you is the most important thing to do xx

  • We can't wait for the system to change.

No longer can we wait for the system to change. We have to start doing this work ourselves.

In today's episode, I talk through why we need to start making changes and the benefits of being proactive, despite knowing things need to change. Take a listen and let me know what you think.

  • The Link Between Wellbeing & Teaching and Learning

Too often, I hear leaders and teachers say that they have to choose between one or the other, or that if they are focusing on wellbeing, they can't focus on teaching and learning and vice versa, this is not accurate.

Wellbeing and teaching and learning go hand in hand. In fact, we should be focusing on both if we want to improve each to improve. We need each of these cogs turning in order to achieve change, and build better school culture.

I will be unpacking more of this in my upcoming masterclass on June 22nd - you can register here: https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/teacher-wellbeing-masterclass-tickets-359298560667
