Rob Has a Podcast | Big Brother, Survivor & Reality TV - RHAP

RHAP Rewind | Kid Nation Episode 1

Welcome to the RHAP Rewind! Each month, we’ll be popping in a new VHS tape to take a look back at some shows from the reality tv archives. Whether it’s a particular season, a full series, or anything in between, we’ll be rewinding the tapes and hopping to a new series each month.

Today, we hop back in time to September 19, 2007. This year saw the release of the very first iPhone, Shrek the Third, and of course, the premiere of Kid Nation! Rob Cesternino (@robcesternino) and Phil Thompson (@listenupphilip) travel to the lawless land on Bonanza City. There, these two podcasters begin their rewatch of Kid Nation with episode 1.

Kid Nation is an American reality tv show featuring 40 children between the ages of 8 and 15. Similar to Survivor, the children establish their own governing rules and society with little adult supervision. Each week, the town council elects gold stars to one child. Kid Nation ran on CBS for one season.

Are there any shows you’d love to see covered on the rewind? Did you originally watch Kid Nation when it first premiered? What are your thoughts on this show looking back? Send us a gold star and share your Kid Nation thoughts with us on Twitter by tagging @RobHasAPodcast and using the hashtag #RHAP!

RHAP Best of 2020

With 2021 right around the corner, it’s time to look back and reflect on the past year, and wow, what a year 2020 has been. It’s been a year of massive change, growth, and recovery. This year, more than ever, the RHAP community rallied together through the highs and lows.

In February 2020, the RHAP community came together in celebration of our 10 year anniversary! What better way to celebrate this milestone than with an all-winner season of Survivor? With red carpet events and live Know It Alls, this year started out as a major celebration.

In March, as COVID-19 hit, we were faced with a terrifying new reality. As we began to hear phrases like “social distancing” and “quarantine,” Survivor was just about the only thing that seemed normal. Each week, we could temporarily escape to the beautiful beaches of Fiji with our Mount Rushmore players. When it was quiet at home, we could fill the room with the voices of our favorite podcasters to help us laugh and pass the time.

When our medical communities needed support the most, RHAP listeners acted generously and quickly. Together, we raised $25,000 for Direct Relief to provide Personal Protective Equipment for our doctors and nurses. In this incredible act of compassion, we witnessed the kindness and dedication of the Rob Has a Podcast community.

Our RHAP family grew! With new listeners, new Patrons, and new podcasters! In July 2020, we introduced a new class of podcasters to bring fresh new voices and perspectives to our podcasts.

Today, Rob Cesternino, revisits some of the best moments from 2020. From Tiger King to Talking With T-Bird, get ready to look back at some of the highlights from this past year on Rob Has a Podcast. Click on the links below to hear the full episodes of the podcasts in this episode.

Rob & Akiva Need a Podcast #113: Ape Crazy Nights

Rob Cesternino (@robcesternino) and Akiva Wienerkur (@keev26) need a podcast and every week, Rob and Akiva spin a wheel of listener-submitted podcast ideas, and whatever the wheel lands on is what they podcast about next. This week, the wheel landed on the “Ape Crazy Nights” which resulted in Rob and Akiva watching and discussed various ape-centered movies with American Ninja Warrior RHAP-up co-host Lita Brillman (@LitaTweeted).

After Rob and Akiva discuss all the ape-centered movies , they go through the mailbag to hear what new ideas should be added to the wheel and then spin the wheel to see what will be coming next week in episode 114.

Pop Culture Stars of 2020: A Year-End Survivor Simulation

Ahhh 2020, we all had such high hopes for this year. This year saw forest fires, toilet paper shortages, and oh, not to mention, a global pandemic. Yet, while the world seemed to go up in flames around us, some pop-culture stars provided us with moments of laughter, fun, and temporary escape. The world never needed a fringe-wearing, mullet-rocking, tiger king more than it did in 2020.

Rob Cesternino (@robcesternino) is joined by BrantSteele simulation specialist, Mike Bloom (@AMikeBloomType) and RHAP Class of 2020 star, Chappell (@Chappells_Show) to put these 2020 pop-culture moments to the test.

So, just as we did in 2019, we’re back with a year-end Survivor simulation featuring some of the top pop-culture stars of 2020. Roar with Joe Exotic, swing into the last dance with Michael Jordan, and live stream with all of your friends on Among Us. These three pop culture phenomenons are joined by other notable names from 2020 to battle for the title of Sole-Pop Culture Star (title in progress on that one…).

What were your favorite pop-culture moments of 2020? Were there any defining pop-culture names that didn’t make the list? Share your thought with us on Twitter by tagging Rob Has a Podcast @RobHasAPodcast and using the hashtag #RHAP!

Big Brother Catfish Special: Did BB5’s Cowboy get Catfished?

Reality TV worlds collide as MTV’s hit series, Catfish, featured a few CBS reality TV stars – and we’re not talking about Amazing Race‘s noodlers Nathan and Cody. Rob Cesternino is joined by RHAP Class of 2020 member, Maggie Morgan (@_mlmorgan) to discuss this huge episode.

Season 8, episode 28 titled “Michael & Julia,” follows Big Brother star Michael Ellis, also known as Cowboy, and his online relationship with a woman named Julia. The episode begins, as Survivor‘s Russell Hantz reaches out to the Catfish hosts to investigate his friend’s relationship. During the episode, there is also an appearance from Big Brother Houseguest, James Huling. In this reality-star entangled episode, the Catfish hosts scour the internet to get to the bottom of this fishy relationship. Was Cowboy catfished? Hear what Rob and Maggie are thinking about this modern day love story.
