I think a man becomes a man when he realizes there is a greater purpose to live for than getting the woman of his dreams.  Loss and heartbreak will drive the man to dig deep in himself and make the pain into something, this will drive him to seek actualization of his talents and his greatness.  A man has no one to turn to, and he will greatly benefit using all the pain and sadness inside him as fuel towards his mission.
