Chapter 6: Kingston Sessions "A Deadly Betrayal" Part 2 unfolds in a vibrant setting, celebrating Independence Day with a dazzling fireworks display that mesmerizes the guests, including Sia, a country girl from Jamaica. The episode artfully juxtaposes the glitzy life of Manhattan's elite and the struggles of Jamaican musicians, emphasizing the socio-economic divides that persist.
As the show progresses, listeners are introduced to the dynamics of creativity and collaboration in the music-making process, particularly between Rich Prafder an aspiring musician from NY and Deadly Headley, a legendary Jamaican saxophonist. The narrative traces the journey of their partnership, underscoring the excitement and challenges faced in producing the "Kingston Sessions" album. However, tension rises as Richie Prafder's ego and ambitions clash with the realities of the music business, leading to a series of poor decisions that jeopardize the project. The episode touches on the emotional landscape of the characters, revealing Richie's desperation for success and recognition, which ultimately blinds him to the collaborative spirit that is essential in music production. As the story unfolds, it explores themes of loyalty, betrayal, and the quest for artistic integrity, resonating deeply with anyone who has navigated the complexities of creative partnerships.

Chapter 5: Kingston Sessions "A Deadly Betrayal" In the fall of 1997 the legendary Jamaican Saxophonist Deadly Headley Bennett invited a young Sax player to Kingston to study under Headley's musical direction. Deadly brought the aspiring horn player Rich Prafder into the studio, where the 2 recorded a demo project under the name Saxsemilla...But then that little 5 song demo tape led to a big six figure record deal, and would you be shocked to find out, everything changed.

The 1990’s were the hey day of music video channel MTV and the shameless cross promotion between the record companies and Movie Studios. The era when a catchy song, stylish video, and charismatic artist could take a song from a hit movie all the way to the top of the pop charts. Hollywood had a formula that that worked, and at the time it didn’t include the brown skin son to Indian immigrants from England...signed to the competition. So the geniuses at the label came up with a solution, it was a half baked idea, but it just might work.

The blizzard continues in "Murder Love (B-side)" In the summer of 1993 there was no reggae song making people dance like the hip hip infused dancehall club banger titled Informer, and no reggae singer tearing up the international pop charts like a 24 year old white reggae rapper form Toronto Canada Darren Kenneth O Brian, better known as Snow. When the label decides to produce the follow up album in Kingston, The stage was set for an Irish hoodlum and his gang of thugs to descend onto a 3rd World country to wreak havoc. Enabled by managers and record companies willing to give him anything, and do whatever it takes to get a hit. The question is what is Henry K willing to do?

In the Season 6 Debut, Henry K explains the meaning and importance of "owning your masters" and why it's the catch phrase for a new generation looking to take creative control not only over their work, but over their lives. "Owning your masters," it even sounds powerful, like reckoning or reclamation, and it kind of is. It is the reason why 30 years ago the revolutionary singer Prince, wrote the word slave on his face, and changes his name to unpronounceable symbol. It's why even today, an unlikely rebel named Taylor Swift is re-recording and re- releasing her entire early catalog, of songs she signed away the rights to when she was just a starry eyed teen.

Both the Grateful Dead and Reggae have evolved from music into movements, communities centered around Love, Respect, Unity, and Awareness. Perhaps the most overlooked connection boils down to one Word "Rebellion," The Grateful Dead and Reggae were both born out of separate counter cultures embroiled in the same universal struggle, the fight against the status quo, against injustice and intolerance. In this episode "Who Feels it...Knows it," Henry K experiences the fight first hand and learns, what so many of his friends and colleagues have endured in the music business.
