Rugby Wrap Up

NEW YORK, NY - Things are really starting to heat up out West in the men's CRAA top division. It's so hot, in fact, that Josh Ressio couldn't come anywhere near the studio this week and had to be taped separately.

We still managed to get Josh's take on St. Mary's struggles against UCLA and Cal's utter domination of Arizona and GCU this weekend, as well as Arknasas State's place in the college rugby landscape after being shut out by Lindenwood.

Speaking of Lindenwood, their women's team opened their spring season in hopes of defending both the 7s and 15s national titles that they claimed last season. Will Life be the ones facing them in the D1 Elite Championship again this year? Or have they been removed from contention for daring to play against NCR teams in the fall?

And finally, if you're an Iona Gael, make sure you take precautions this weekend! Colby thinks all of it's alumni have been cursed after some bad injury luck with the guys on Rugby New York. Fortunately, everyone is healthy and well and so we were able to check in on some MLR Rookies who aren't former Iona Gaels as well.

NEW YORK, NY - Another week of MLR in the books and hopefully some more money in your pockets! #WWE legend John Bradshaw Layfield had an epic run last week, going 4-1-1 while, unfortunately, Matt got his first Wooden Spoon of this new season, going 2-3-1.

There are only 5 games this week but still plenty of money to be made. Will the Texas Trifecta (Dallas, Austin and Houston all to win/cover) pay off for JBL and Gift Egbelu? Will Matt's continuing faith in Old Glory bring him some glory? Will Nate Osborne find a job?!

Plus, the guys give their Six Nations picks ahead of Round 3 this weekend. Does Ireland have enough in the tank to cover a 40 point spread over Italy? Tune in to find out what the gang thinks about that one.

SEATTLE, WA - We all knew (kind of) that the Austin Gilgronis (3-0) would be good this year - and they have been VERY good. Did we expect the Seattle Seawolves to be 3-0, though? Heck no! Along with New England and New York, the Pacific Northwest's franchise remains in the MLR 2022 unbeaten ranks. Dan Power, Bryan Ray and Matt McCarthy look at the standings, dissect last week's action, preview what's ahead and talk Major League Rugby man-crushes.

LOS ANGELES, CA - Some heavyweight action as 4 of the top 6 teams in the men's D1A rankings were in action this past weekend, all playing each other! The number one overall St. Mary's Gaels (The Real Gaels) barely held off a strong #6 BYU with a second matchup between those two slated for later in the spring. And Lindenwood topped Life in what could be considered an upset since Lindenwood is ranked lower, coming in at #5.

There were also a few Iona Gaels (Not The Real Gaels) who saw their first action in the MLR this weekend and Colby has that recap.

Josh also gets upset about a lack of MLR representation in Northern California but, I mean, come on. Don't they have enough going for them already?

NEW YORK, NY - The gang is back to share their picks and make you rich! This week the oddsmakers were a little too good, calling three-point wins for both Seattle and New York, resulting in two ties. But the rest of the picks were spot on, with JBL reaping the rewards for having faith that Dallas would keep it close against the Legion.

- Should you trust Dallas to again cover the spread this week against a revamped Houston side?

- Which team will get their first win on the season when NOLA takes on Toronto in the Gold Mine? And which team will suffer their first loss as San Diego welcomes in fellow unbeaten Seattle?

- Will Rugby New York vs. Rugby ATL live up to last year's conference championship match?

- Who the heck are the green cauliflower people?!?!

All this and more on this week's .... The Rugby Odds!

MLR SCHEDULE:

Old Glory vs. New England (NE -8)

Atlanta vs. New York (ATL -3)

Dallas vs Houston (HOU -5)

Austin vs. Utah (AUS -5)

NOLA Gold vs. Toronto (NOLA -3)

NEW YORK, NY - In an eye-blink, the first week of Major League Rugby is officially in the books.  It did not disappoint, as there was a little bit of everything: Upsets, Blowouts and Bad Beats (*cough* San Diego). See how our team of WWE Legend John Bradshaw Layfield, former NOLA Gold coach Nate Osborne and Matt McCarthy fared with their picks/boasts and see their new choices vs the spreads. As a bonus, the gang gets Six Nations input from Steve Lewis before picking those matches. Included in this rollicking ride of a show are questionable claims of ancestry, blatant lies and shifting allegiances. And the following questions get answered:

-Who won the first wooden spoon of season two?!

-Who has the best picks heading into Week 2?!

-Why is Nate Osborne wearing a jumpsuit?!

All that and more on this week's The Rugby Odds which the critics called "The greatest rugby entertainment show... involving these specific people ever."

NOTE: Make sure you watch this episode immediately ahead of Thursday night's game between Seattle and Utah!

MLR SCHEDULE:

Seattle vs. Utah

Toronto vs. LA Giltinis

San Diego Legion vs. Dallas

Houston vs. Rugby New York

HOUSTON TX - The pundits, including ours, were wrong. The Houston SaberCats saw to that, as they clawed the Giltinis in Major League Rugby's season 5 opening weekend. A big reason for that, storied South African coach Heyneke Meyer (now their Director of Rugby) shares with Dan Power, Bryan Ray and Matt McCarthy how that happened. Meyer also shows his fun side in a candid interview re culture, changing lives and putting in the work... After that, Dan, Bryan and Matt breakdown all things MLR with highlights, insight and predictions.
