This lecture discusses key ideas from the 20th-21st century philosopher John Sellars' recent article "What Is Philosophy As A Way Of Life" (Parrhesia, vol. 28)

It discusses the distinction he develops early on in the article, between two different manners of understanding and engaging in philosophy. Philosophy as a Way of Life would be more closely associated with humanistically conceived philosophy.

It focuses specifically on the understanding of human freedom as a fundamental value for ethics, centering on her phrase "willing oneself free"
