The Assyrian Sports and Cultural Club has experienced many difficulties throughout the years since it's establishment in 1970.
Mr. Assur Jako, president of the committee Board says the club was established to serve the Assyrian community in Sydney. He added the club always supported our people who were displaced and fled their homeland.
He said nine members from eighteen candidates were elected to the new board on Sunday, November 24, 2019 and newly elected board has important plans for the club for the next two years.

Sanaa, an Assyrian language college teacher and activist, said she felt her participation in the Iraqi demonstration in Sydney as if it were in Tahrir Square in Baghdad.
She stressed that the demonstration expressed the solidarity of Iraqis together, where they raised one voice in support of thousands of demonstrators who are demanding the rights and free life of all Iraqis without discrimination.

Young Assyrians Ramsin Jajoo, Susan George, Yaqub Khoshaba, and Luke Jacob have come together to start a new project that encourages the advancement of Assyrian businesses. One of the organisers, Luke Jacob said,  "We saw that other communities have annual awards to encourage businesses, and we agreed to do something similar for the Assyrian community". He told SBS that nominations where posted online and the winners will be announced on the night of 26 Nov 2019.

Valentine Aghajani is a migration agent and member of the Assyrian Council of Victoria. She also holds the position as the coordinator and teacher of the Assyrian Interpreter’s program at RMIT. She has been running this course for a few years. She says this year, students are so delighted with the course outcome and they are looking forward for the presentation night organised by Mrs Aghajani on Friday 29/11/2019.

Since childhood, his parents noticed Robert’s talents as a classical singer, and decided to support him all the way until he finished his academic studies. He completed his Bachelor of Music in Performance (Vocal Performance) at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, Opera Department. His musical collaborations have included Opera Australia, ANZAC Tattoo, Sydney Opera House and Sydney Conservatorium of Music. Robert, a countertenor (or mezzo soprano) will join the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra at the end of the year in “Noël, Noël!” to perform Christmas carols, and will tour Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney. Robert's advice to young Assyrians is "if you love something, do it and study it, it’s very important".

The secretary of the Iraqi Women's League, Mrs. Shamiram Odisho said “Iraqi women have proved to be strong and responsible in their participation in peaceful demonstrations”. She stressed that there are women present in the media, in medical support and as artists, beautifying Baghdad streets and Tahrir square with murals and paintings. 

She added that there are dozens of tents in the yards of the demonstrations, which represent the various institutions and civil organisations providing cultural activities for the bright faced Iraqi people.

23 Iraqi organizations in Australia have formed a larger committee to communicate the message from Iraqi demonstrators to the highest political levels in Australia. They hope that Australia can pressure the Iraqi government to stop the violence and the deliberate killing of demonstrators in Baghdad.

 Committee member, Mr. Soro Soro said that they are calling for the abolition of the “government of quotas”, sectarianism and the prosecution of spoilers.

He then added that the “committee considers it important to knock on the doors of the UN office and the Iraqi embassy in Australia.”
