A motion that unconditionally recognized Palestine and condemned Israel and the Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu, was defeated at the Western Australian Labor Party Conference and instead a more balanced motion, similar to the one passed at the NSW Labor Party Conference, was adopted. Swastikas painted in a park next to the Jewish Chabad Centre in Canberra were left for 3 months, due to an administrative miscommunication, despite their being reported to the Australian Federal Police by the Centre and even though such offensive graffiti is normally removed within 24 hours. Don't miss our weekly Yiddish report with Alex Dafner. this week:The Australian Foreign Minister Julie Bishop, told a gathering of Jewish representatives that she might consider the possibility of having an Australian diplomatic presence in West Jerusalem, perhaps in partnership with such a diplomatic representation of another country such as Britain. The Australian national airline QANTAS has signed a long awaited code and other facilities sharing agreement with the Israeli airline EL AL, which is expected to boost tourism and other traffic and offer benefits, such as frequent Flier points and use of lounge facilities, for clients of both airlines.
