West Australian Premier Mark McGowan has described the damage wrought by ex-tropical cyclone Seroja as widespread and severe. Around 70 per cent of properties in a popular tourist spot on the state's midwest coast has been damaged. Seroja made landfall south of Kalbarri as a category three storm with wind gusts up to 170 kilometres per hour.

A proposed paid parental leave scheme is recommending incentives be given to couples who split caring responsibilities in an effort to boost gender balance in the workforce. Under the current Federal Government scheme the primary carer is entitled to 18 weeks at the national minimum wage, which overwhelmingly in the private sector is the mother. A secondary carer is entitled to two weeks under what's called "Dad and Partner pay". 

Предложената шема за платено родителско отсуство препорачува да се даваат стимулации за паровите кои ja делат грижaтa во обид да го зајакнат родовиот баланс во работната сила. Според сегашната шема на Федералната влада, примарниот старател има право на 18 недели со национална минимална плата, што vo најголем дел од приватниот сектор е мајкатa.
