Minister for Multicultural Affairs in Victoria, Richard Wynne has opened the $3 million Indian Community Infrastructure Fund today. Victoria’s Indian communities can apply to upgrade and enhance their temples, community centres and other community facilities through this fund.

ਇਹ ਫੰਡ ਵਿਕਟੋਰੀਆ ਦੇ ਸਾਰੇ ਭਾਰਤੀ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਿਆਂ ਲਈ ਖੁੱਲਾ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਧਾਰਮਿਕ ਸਥਾਨਾਂ, ਕਮਿਊਨਿਟੀ ਸੈਂਟਰਾਂ ਅਤੇ ਹੋਰ ਭਾਈਚਾਰਕ ਸਹੂਲਤਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਅਪਗ੍ਰੇਡ ਕਰ ਸਕਣ। ਮਲਟੀਕਲਚਰਲ ਅਫੇਅਰਸ ਮੰਤਰੀ ਰਿਚਰਡ ਵਿਨ ਨੇ ਇਸ ਦਾ ਐਲਾਨ ਕਰਦੇ ਹੋਏ ਕਿਹਾ ਕਿ ਉਨ੍ਹਾਂਦੀ ਸਰਕਾਰ 'ਪਿਛਲੀਆਂ ਚੋਣਾਂ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਪਾਰਟੀ ਵਲੋਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਹੋਏ ਵਾਅਦੇ ਨੂੰ ਪੂਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਹੈ।' 

Primary school student Gurmannat Kaur Grewal’s artwork, which is a combination of Punjabi and Aboriginal arts has been chosen for an award by the NSW Federation of Community Language Schools. The Federation caters to 30,000 students from 250 community language schools teaching over 82 languages in New South Wales.

"I really do believe that the government is unfair to the community of students when they bring them here and they spend a lot of money and our economy does very well out of it, but the students don’t get pathways to residency,” said Indian Subcontinent Crisis and Support Agency chair, Kittu Randhawa.

Migrating to Australia is a lucrative business for those involved in organising such a move. So lucrative, in fact, that fraud is not uncommon. 

As current law and practice stands, there's often little that can be done to protect the vulnerable victims of such fraud.

Turban-wearing Sikh truck drivers delivering goods to Nestle Australia say they continue to be denied entry into Nestle premises without wearing a hard-hat – something not possible over a turban. Nestle Australia has now told SBS Punjabi, ‘We appreciate that requiring people in some areas of our sites to wear a hard hat creates a difficult situation for Sikh visitors to our site, but we’re keen to find a way to accommodate them.’
