Das Sydney was born in India and moved to Africa with his parents at a very young age. He lived in Ethiopia and Ghana for a total of 14 years before immigrating to Canada in 1969. This rich and varied background has given him a profound appreciation and sensitivity towards people, cultures, and differing expressions of faith around the world.

He has served in the parish contexts in both Ontario and Nova Scotia where his ministry has maintained the importance of preaching as a key element of worship. He has also emphasized the dynamic union of the message of Jesus with the practical care of people. It has led to a compassion towards those in need, advocacy for the marginalized and offering care where there is spiritual need.

He has served as the Lead Pastor of Highland Baptist Church in Kitchener for almost 19 years. On his recent retirement from Highland, he was given the honorific title, Minister Emeritus.

He has helped churches engage in long term planning and helped them find their calling or mission, in service and witness. While the Lead Pastor at the historic Wolfville Baptist Church in Nova Scotia, the church attained the highest membership since records were kept. He spear-headed the Out of the Cold program at a Toronto Church, helped organize a variety of helping ministries for refugees and new Canadians, and has been involved with significant reconciliation efforts with our First Nations neighbours.

He is currently the immediate Past President of the Canadian Council of Churches, a Past President of the Canadian Baptists of Ontario and Quebec, and was the chair of the writing team that produced This We Believe, an important document that outlines various emphases in faith and practice among Canadian Baptists. He serves on the Leadership Commission of the Baptist World Alliance and is on the Board of Indwell – which offers supportive housing for the marginalized. He is also the Moderator of the South Central Association of Baptist Churches.

Das has graduate degrees from the University of Toronto, McMaster University, and a doctorate from Northern Seminary in Chicago. He has taught Practical Theology as an adjunct at Acadia Divinity College (Wolfville, NS), McMaster Divinity College (Hamilton, ON), and Communication at Emmanuel Bible College (Kitchener, ON).

For over two decades, Ellen Graf-Martin has had the privilege of working alongside incredible world-changers. Why? Because of a deep commitment to strengthening organizations and leaders who are dedicated to hope, generosity and justice. Serving people who serve those who live in the margins, to find justice. Seeing those who are vulnerable, empowered. That’s what gets Ellen up in the morning.

Since 2008, she has led the team at Graf-Martin Communications, where she makes marketing happen - for good. The team brings strategic insight to non-profit, values-driven executive directors and their Fundraising and Communications teams.

Ellen has had the opportunity to work as a marketing, branding and resource consultant for several national and international non-profit organizations, has built marketing strategies for Hollywood blockbuster films and toured hundreds of bestselling authors.

Ellen is also passionate about equipping other women in positions of leadership. This passion is what led to the development of The Table - a group of 50 Canadian women of faith in positions of leadership. This group meets regularly to share resources, equip and encourage each other, in what can be a very lonely space.

As a volunteer, Ellen has had the chance to judge the JUNO Awards, approve Business Development Canada loan applications for small businesses and provide direction and consultation on communications for Ontario Health.

With a variety of cross-cultural living experiences, and a west-coast upbringing, Ellen now survives winters and enjoys summers in Ontario with her husband, daughter and their feisty Bengal cat.

Kim Phuc Phan Thi is known around the world as “The Girl in the Picture.” In 1972, at  the age of 9, she was immortalized in a Pulitzer Prize-winning photograph that shows her screaming and running naked down a road in Trang Bang, Vietnam, after having her clothing burned off by napalm. A living symbol of the atrocity of war, she is the founder  of The KIM Foundation International, a nonprofit dedicated to providing funds to support the work of international organizations that provide free medical assistance to children who are victims of war, violence, and deprivation.

Mrs. Phan Thi has suffered many hardships since that day in 1972 including several years of painful burn therapy, but her spirit has always remained strong. Inspired by the  physicians who helped her survive, she decided to become a doctor; but her pre medical studies in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) were interrupted in 1982 when the Vietnamese government removed her from school to act as a “national symbol of the war.” Four years later the government permitted her to continue her studies in Cuba, but health issues put an end to her plans to become a doctor.

It was in Cuba that Mrs. Phan Thi met her husband, Toan. They married on September  11, 1992. While on the way back to Havana after their honeymoon in Moscow, the couple defected to Canada during a one-hour layover in Newfoundland, Canada. They now live near Toronto, and Mrs. Phan Thi travels the world as a UNESCO (United  Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) Goodwill Ambassador for the Culture of Peace.

Kim Phuc Phan Thi has received seven honorary doctorate degrees from universities in Canada, Australia, the United States, and Mexico for her efforts to help children and end world conflict. She is an Honorary Member of Kingston Rotary, an Honorary  Member of St. Albert Rotary, a Member of the Advisory Board for the Wheelchair Foundation, an Honorary Member of the Canadian Commission for UNESCO, a Member of the Advisory Board of Free Children's Foundation in Canada, and the World  Children's Center in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. Mrs. Phan Thi is also a recipient of the  Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal, the 2004 "Order of Ontario,” as well as the International  Peace Prize presented in Dresden Germany, February 2019.
