Christi Adams is the owner of Christi's Windows LLC in Chandler, Arizona. . She works with designers in the Phoenix area, and also with select retail clients. She is passionate about creating the extraordinary. Working closely with designers with like passions has pushed her past the "fear" barrier and on to creating some amazing "works of art" for windows. Christi started her business in 1986. She wanted to start a home-based business that would allow her a flexible schedule while she raised her children. She loved to sew and had an eye for design, so she decided to peruse window treatment fabrication. She teamed up with a local designer and began learning the art of window dressing. Most of her education came from any fabrication book she could get her hand on, advice and consultation with her designer and trial and error. She was able to study design, color, and scale, but fabrication technique was a real challenge. There was very little help for a beginner in the industry. When Cheryl Strickland began her newsletter and education conferences in 1993 a whole new "window" of opportunity opened up for her. As she learned from the pros, her confidence grew, and the work improved. Christi is a master at engineering difficult, large-scale window treatments. Attention to detail is first priority. Open communication between herself, the designer, and the client bring the finest results. Christi feels blessed to be part of an industry where we can learn from each other and celebrate success together. She served several terms as President of her local WCAA chapter. She is also past president of the Phoenix Association of Workroom Professionals. Sharon Coppede is the owner of Custom Window Treatments, Inc.
In 1982, when her children were 4 and 2 yrs. old, Sharon joined a neighborhood cottage industry in Plymouth, Mass. as a seamstress for aprons, toaster covers, and tab top drapes stenciled on the lead edges. She realized she had a gift for making window treatments and when she moved to our next assignment in Virginia, she built a 4 x 8 table in the walk-out basement and that is when she started making draperies for customers. Sharon went to Sew What conferences as a student and then, over time, went as a presenter. After a few more moves and when they moved to Charlotte, NC in 1996, Sharon's goal was to get out of the basement and into a space and Custom Window Treatments, Inc., a "to the trade workroom" came about. She targeted high end designers and she now has a thriving business with a staff. Her company fabricates not only for local designers but designers throughout the country contact CWT for their customers moving to the area. Sharon's specialty since the beginning was working with silk and English Bump Interlining. Silk has pretty much been replaced with linen as trends come and go. But their customer service and quality have always stayed. Rachel and Bryan Short own and operate The Sewing Loft of Avon, a custom soft furnishings workroom located in Connecticut. It is a full-service workroom serving both interiors designers and homeowners. Rachel has had a passion for sewing her entire life and made her first item in her sixth grade HomeEc class, a small football-shaped pillow. She turned her passion into a business when she started The Sewing Loft in their home in July 2010 after spending most of her professional life as a paralegal at a major law firm and at a wind energy company. Bryan came on board in 2013 after a career as a litigation attorney and both he and Rachel started working on growing The Sewing Loft full-time. Through the many ups and downs, joys and struggles, they always encouraged each other and remained focused on making their dream a reality. Today, The Sewing Loft is a thriving business with employees and has expanded to a commercial space. Most important, they are excited for what the future will bring!
