The discussion includes building a quality clinical trial team, relationship development with industry partners, cooperative group involvement (NRG), the process for initiating clinical research at home institution, and important pitfalls to avoid as a new researcher among other topics.

This episode features recent updates presented at the 2022 European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) Congress in Paris, France. SOLO1 study survival data, PAOLA data, and information about novel, early-phase drugs and their practice implications are reviewed by three speaker experts. 

This is an educational resource produced through collaboration between the Society of Gynecologic Oncology (SGO) and the Cancer Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC). 

Join us as Scott Richard, MD, co-chair of the SGO Taskforce for Board Certification Support, interviews Janelle Darby, MD and Kathryn Mills, MD to discuss best resources for radiation oncology when preparing for the ABOG oral board exam. This podcast episode addresses important resources and questions regarding study preparation, radiation prevention strategies, the benefits of joining a study group, reviewing treatment and management of the patients on your case list, knowing the principles of radiation and how it is administered, discussing treatment decisions with your local radiation oncologist, and more. The taskforce will offer six informative podcasts focused on high yield topics and best preparation practices.

During the SGO 2024 Annual Meeting on Women’s Cancer in San Diego, CA,  representatives from The American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology (ABOG) will join the SGO Taskforce for Board Certification Support to discuss logistics of the certifying exam as well as the assessment and scoring process and there will be a presentation covering radiation oncology. Keep an eye for this session opportunity when registering for the upcoming SGO 2024 Annual Meeting and be sure to sign up if interested in participating. We will also have three roundtable discussions where participants will meet in small groups with a taskforce facilitator to discuss hypothetical cases.

Radiation Planning Principles for Gynecologic Oncology (part of the Fellow Core Lecture Series) – Hour long lecture from Anuja Jhingran, MD at MD Anderson that reviews radiation fields, IMRT, specific organ dose limits, vaginal brachytherapy delivery to name a few. This is a good overview of radiation basics and treatment for the different disease sites.

Join Dr. Hall, Co-Chair of the SGO Taskforce for Board Certification Support, as she interviews Drs. Mallen and Zeligs, who recently took the ABOG board exam, addressing several different approaches to case list preparation. As part of the taskforce, we have recognized several SGO members who had taken the ABOG board exam have different approaches to their case list preparation, and we wanted to make sure we provide effective resources for all of those candidates coming up this year on what we were able to be successful with our case list. Some questions covered during the interview:

1. What is the timeline for case list creation and submission?
2. How many cases do I need?
3. What cases do I need to include on my list?
4. What about the ABOG approved abbreviations?
5. When should I have the required affidavits signed?

The taskforce will also offer other informative podcasts focused on high yield topics and best preparation practices.

Join Dr. AlHilli as she interviews Dr. Amanda Nickles Fader addressing specific questions of mentorship, conducting clinical trials and rare disease in gynecologic oncology, and having success in clinical trials. Dr. Fader also discussed the SGO BRIDGES Research Initiative, a new, longitudinal clinical trials workshop for early career investigators with the aim of developing the next generation of trialists who will lead investigator-initiated and cooperative group gynecologic cancer clinical studies. It is designed to bridge the gap between translational scientists and clinical trialists in gynecologic oncology by providing formal training for young investigators in clinical trial design, connecting participants with expert mentors, and supporting the development of novel clinical trials.
