Australian Jewish leaders commended the decision to change the name of the Melbourne Federal Electoral seat of Batman to Cooper, in honour of the Aboriginal leader and human rights campaigner William Cooper, who in a unique act of solidarity with the Jewish people tried to deliver a protest letter to the German Embassy, condemning the Krsystalnacht anti-Jewish Nazi pogrom of the 9th November 1938 in Germany and Austria.
