In this live stream, we delve into the intricate history, etymology and significance of the word "partner" in the context of heterosexual relationships. Originating from the LGBT community's advocacy for domestic partnerships since 1979, the term gained traction in the mid-2000s among heterosexual couples in an attempt to be politically correct. However, with the legalization of same-sex marriage nationwide starting in 2012, the use of "partner" for heterosexual couples becomes questionable. We explore how this adoption has sparked controversy within the LGBT community, with concerns over appropriation and the dilution of a term deeply rooted in their struggle for recognition. Join us as we navigate the complexities of language evolution, social justice, and cultural sensitivity in the ongoing discourse surrounding relationship terminology and inclusivity.
Words matter. On top of all the above, saying "partner" has an implication that there is equality in your heterosexual relationship. That is not biologically accurate, nor is it accurate when looking at it from an evolutionary psychology perspective. Women operate in the SMP with hypergamy, and by it's very nature, demands that she try to select a mate who she perceives as above her in some way. There is no equality in the SMP. Get over it.
