There's a ton of musical talent in the province and a Fredericton band wants to get more of that talent on stage. Starting tomorrow night Brookside Mall is hosting a weekly event they're calling The Lottery II. Brendan MaGee tells Vanessa all about it.

Assumption School in Rogersville is home to a couple of chickens. Their names are Josee and Banane and they may well be the first chickens to roost at a New Brunswick school. Teacher Vincent Guerette came up with the coop plan as a way to teach his students about science. But he says the chickens are a big hit all across town.

The Canaan-Washdemoak Watershed Association just released the results of their latest shoreline survey. There's now 18 km of shoreline vegetation along Washdemoak Lake that's been altered, or lost. More than half of that took place between 2003 and 2017, said Shawn Dalton, the association's executive director.

A note in the margin of a diary led provincial archivist Kim McGuire to discover a strange story from her hometown of Sussex. McGuire tells the story of a nurse, who died after accidentally being shot through a wall, almost 100 years ago.

New Brunswick breweries earned some new hardware over the weekend. Four craft breweries took home eight awards at the 16th Canadian Brewing Awards in Halifax this weekend. Including two gold, for Fredericton's Grimross Brewery and Les Brasseurs du Petit-Sault in Edmundston. Brewery co-founder André Legér Petit-Sault said they won it for their Belgian Blonde - Bob LeBouef.

A group in the Greater Moncton area is hosting a rock camp for girls. Co-founder Dylan Hackett Dylan Hackett said the camp is planned for August 13 to 17. It hopes to empower girls 12 to 18 years old, including transgender and gender non-conforming people.

The town of Cocagne just celebrated the opening of it's first Community Children's Garden. Garden volunteer Yvan Picard said it allows children and their families to own a plot of land, where they can learn about growing fruit and vegetables, and becoming self-sustainable, even if they don't know much about gardening at first.

For many people suffering from dementia sleep can be a real problem. Two recreation therapists at Fredericton's York Care Centre are now working on a solution. Eve Baird and Claire Hargrove created a sleep kit, and received a $50,000 grant to fund a research study of the product.

The federal government temporarily closed a 3,000-square-kilometre area to fishing in an effort to protect the endangered right whale. The decision angered some crab and lobster fishermen. Also this week - the Liberals' hold on a key Moncton riding is in doubt after eight members quit over the premier's handling of the Chris Collins case. The Gallant government was also rapped on the knuckles this week, for pre-empting a New Brunswick school board's decision-making process for closing a small rural school.
