U.S. Army Bloggers Roundtable

Introduction:

Bringing a visionary, never-heard-before crossbreed of progressive, electro& trance to his musical activities, Holland’s Jochen Miller embodies thenew decade’s freeform, Big Room sound. From his earliest turntable days he’s disregarded traditional EDM borders to bring countless global dancefloors to critical mass.A spinner without parallel, he’s comprehensively conquered his home-country,playing tent-pole events including Trance Energy, Mysteryland & Dance Valley before venturing abroad.

Production-wise, Jochen is most readily associated with his 15+ releases on High Contrast Recordings. Over the last 6 years tracks like ‘Lost Connection’, ‘Humanoid’,‘Brace Yourself’, and most recently the Energy 2011 anthem‘Classified’, and 'Upad' have wowed clubbers globally and shaken dance floors to their core.

The DJ:

In2000 Jochen became the first ever resident at Nijmegen’s scene-setting, and now widely renowned, Matrixx club. From there he’s gone on to become a fixture atmany of Holland’s cooler, underground venues. With his fashionable style, charismatic nature and affinitive, authoritative deck approach, he quickly madea name for himself at spots like DansSalon, Westrunie & Marcanti. From that base he’s begun to export his new musical synthesis globally, paying regular visits to Russia, Italy, The UK, Germany, Poland (most recently for Sunrise and En-trance) & the Czech Republic to spin. Following a rapid burgeoning of hisfan-base, the latter half of 2010 saw him sign to the David Lewis Productions DJ agency - home to A-list spinners including Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz & Gareth Emery.

Productions:

Following his earliest turn-of-the-millennium productions (‘Surround Me’& 7th Heaven’ among them), hisdiscography went into overdrive with the launch of broad-range music label,High Contrast.

‘India’, ‘Chromatic’, ‘Alive’, ‘And Then’ (incollaboration with Rank 1) and ‘Face Value’ all provided heavy-impact floorartillery for tougher-minded DJs like Marco V, Sander van Doorn & JudgeJules. The multi-genre character of his sound was brought most keenly intofocus when, in late 2010 his ‘Classified’ single was announced as thesoundtrack to ID&T’s newly diversified Energy ‘11 event. Another significant career evolution beckons midway through 2011 with the release of Jochen’s widely-anticipated debut artist album.

Compilations:

Jochen has been mixing compilations as far back as2002 (when he put together the first Matrixx CD). He now has six under his belt- the most recent being 2009’s High Contrast Recordings Presents Jochen Millerand the co-mixing of EnTrance Presents High Contrast alongside Rank 1 in March of 2010.

RadioShow:

In the autumn of 2010 Jochen began a new monthly radio endeavor… Stay Connected is broadcast on an ever expanding list of stations, which already include Dance Tunes Radio, Trance FM, Radio Hi-Tec, Trancesonic andSATO Radio. With the program also available as a podcast download, the sixty minute show delivers his unique sound-fusion worldwide every month.

Transformation for Success

NFL lineman and one of the NFL's most active on social media, Geoff Schwartz shares his thoughts on the world of sports, life as an athlete, food and pop culture with his co-host, Duke Manyweather.

Block 'Em Up with Geoff & Duke

A mysterious door-way, an incident of ferocious violence, a respectable and popular scientist, well-known for his enjoyable dinner parties who suddenly changes his will, the brutal killing of an elderly Member of Parliament, a diabolical serum that can transform one person into another – truly the ingredients of a fast good thriller!

Robert Louis Stevenson's The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde has captured the imaginations of readers ever since it was first published in 1886. It met with tremendous success and the words “Jekyll and Hyde” entered the English language as symbols of two conflicting sides of the same personality.

The plot is fast and exciting. It begins with the description of two friends who are both lawyers strolling through the streets of Victorian London. As they pass a strange-looking door in a quiet by-lane, one of them recounts a mystifying incident that he had witnessed there a few months ago. He describes how a young girl was brutally beaten up by a sinister character, who when confronted by the narrator and passers-by, meekly agrees to compensate the child. He returns with a check signed by a man known to the narrator – a respectable scientist called Dr Henry Jekyll. As the mystery unravels, what comes to light is a dark and terrifying account of the conflict between good and evil.

Modern-day readers would be quite familiar with the diabolic acts of schizophrenic criminals. Any number of best-sellers, films and television shows have featured them and today many of us are aware of terms like “split personality” or “dissociative identity disorder.” Yet more than a century ago, Robert Louis Stevenson's novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde was received by amazed readers who were presented with a bizarre and weird concept. The dual personalities whose qualities are diametrically opposite of each other create the basic premise of the story and the universal themes of “civilization,” “identity” and “repression” find brilliant expression in the book. Stevenson's gift for creating unforgettable characters is evident in this macabre tale as well and the reader is left with a sense of dread and foreboding.

The book can be read on various levels – a thrilling mystery, an allegory/fable, a commentary on Victorian morality, a doppelganger tale, science fiction or horror story. Whatever one chooses to classify it as, the book is a riveting and unforgettable experience for readers of all ages.

The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll And Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

Wilkie Collins’s The Woman in White tells the story of two half-sisters, Laura Fairlie and Marian Halcombe who were embroiled in the sinister plot of Sir Percival Glyde and Count Fosco to take over their family’s wealth. It’s considered to be one of the first “sensation novels” to be published. Like most novels that fall into this category, the protagonists here are pushed to their limits by the villains before they finally got the justice they deserved.
The story begins with Walter Hartright helping a woman dressed in white who turned out to have escaped from a mental asylum. A day later, he travelled to Cumberland to be a drawing master to the half-sisters Laura Fairlie and Marian Halcombe. While he was in their house he discovered that the woman dressed in white whom he helped was also Laura’s sister.
Walter and Laura eventually became very close to each other and had a relationship, but Laura was already set to marry Sir Percival Glyde. Marian advised Walter to forget his love for Laura and live their place, a painful advice which he followed. Laura eventually married Glyde and this is when things started to turn for the worse for the main characters in the novel.
Glyde and his friend Count Fosco were masters of deception and they’d do everything they can to get the things they want. In the story, Glyde was already in financial difficulties when he married Laura who was from a rich family. In order to get her family’s riches he’s willing to resort to desperate means. Glyde is portrayed here as an archetypical villain which every reader of this book will surely hate.
When it was first published in 1859, The Woman in White quickly became a best-seller because of its theme and storyline. More than a hundred years since its first publication, readers can still relate to its characters and empathize with the protagonists in the story.

A wealthy philanthropist adopts an abandoned baby he finds in a railway station waiting room. The child grows into a fine, upstanding young man. When his benefactor dies, he is made the guardian of the old man's lovely young daughter. But unknown to everyone, he leads a double life that even his best friend knows nothing about...

If you thought that this has all the makings of a most sinister and diabolical plot, you couldn't be more mistaken. The Importance of Being Earnest by Oscar Wilde is a light as a feather confection, full of mischief, fun and laughter!

Written in 1894, this was Wilde's last play. It went on stage on Valentine's Day 1895 and received the most whole hearted and fulsome applause that had ever greeted a contemporary play. Reviewers complained that there was hardly a moment where the audience could stop laughing! It was seen as a wonderful triumph, the work of a master craftsman working at the height of his powers. However, in fifteen weeks Oscar Wilde was in jail. The sensational trial and the humiliating personal exposure of his private life, the loss of his reputation and his final bankruptcy are all part of literary history.

The Importance of Being Earnest, A Trivial Comedy for Serious People to give it its full name is an utterly delightful, frothy creation, with elements of farce, non-stop humor and a veritable tsunami of brilliantly comic one-liners. The three-act play takes place in Algernon Moncrieff's rooms on Half-Moon Street in London and the country house at Woolton. Algernon Moncrieff's best friend is Ernest, a fine young gentleman. Ernest is also in love with Algernon's cousin, Gwendolen. But Ernest is not what he seems. He is actually Jack Worthing, who lives a quiet life. He is wealthy and a Justice of the Peace in Hertfordshire, guardian of his dead benefactor's young daughter, Cecily. Both Cecily and Gwendolen are for some reason, obsessed with the name “Ernest” and what follows is a madcap ride through Victorian tea parties, country house snobbery and mistaken identities.

Many critics have carped that The Importance of Being Earnest does not tackle any serious social or political issues. It was considered pure entertainment and mere clever nonsense. However, its sheer entertainment value cannot be denied and it has remained one of Oscar Wilde's most staged plays. Serious actors like John Gielgud have played Jack, Peggy Ashcroft has played Cecily and one reviewer even remarked that it was the second most performed English play after Shakespeare's Hamlet!

As a light hearted, wacky laugh a minutecreation The Importance of Being Earnest has few rivals.
