The Council on Criminal Justice has estimated there was an 8% Increase in Domestic Violence Incidents in the United States following the Pandemic Stay-At-Home orders, while the Las Vegas Metro Police Department reported a 12 percent spike in domestic violence calls. 

One woman’s kind gesture to a co-worker in need led to a whirlwind pandemic lockdown relationship, and later tragically resulted in her murder.

On January 15th, 2001, Tony Mayan and Carlos Rene stumbled out of their home at 5075 East Hayward Avenue, Las Vegas, in a panic. Carlos was bleeding from his head, and both were desperate to get help. 

They approached a neighbor and asked him to call 911 because they had just survived a violent home invasion, and they needed medical assistance for their roommate and friend, Tzatzi Sanchez. Who was also a victim of the attack

As the investigators untangled what had happened the previous night, they realized that this apparent home invasion was something far more sinister…. It was one of the most horrific crime scenes they’d ever seen.

In 1987, near Lake Mead at Bonelli Landing, a rancher discovered a human skull and remains wrapped in a yellow blanket and buried in a shallow grave. They became another unidentified Jane Doe, her identity lost to time.

Nearly 40 years later, on July 15, 2025, forensic scientists matched dental records and confirmed that those remains belonged to San Diego nurse Carol Ann Riley, who vanished in 1986 after a date with a man later revealed to be serial murderer Robert Dean Weeks.

The sound of an argument carried down the hallway of a central Las Vegas home. It was around two in the afternoon on September 2, 2023, when Juan and his family heard his roommate, 46-year-old Danelle Mask, yell, “I’m going to kill you,” and 59-year-old Jason Williams shout back, “Do it.”

Juan knew it was best to take his kids and leave the house immediately. An hour or so later, Jason would be found slumped and bleeding on the porch of that same home, a single stab wound to his chest.
