Latina Brame, MSW is a Licensed Mental Health Clinician and this week she is helping us to understand Trauma and some of the unhealthy coping mechanisms that people create as a result of it.

She explains the difference between the 3 major types of trauma. Latina also shares her personal experiences with trauma; she grew up a substance dependent parent and gives insights into some of the ways she coped as a child and what healing journey looks like today.

This week’s Guest is Deanna Johnson the founder of Braids Made Perfect @braidsmadeperfect.  Creator of BMP Speaks @bmp_speaks and @bmp_academy

She specializes in braided styles, extensions and Holsem Locs (Human Hair Loc extensions) and is now teaching others do the same in through her BMP Academy.  She also shares bits of her personal story on her BMP Speaks account, in hopes of encouraging other woman who may be in situations similar to the ones that she's been through.

This week’s conversation is a heartfelt and honest reflection about how Deanna has been navigating through some of the darkest times she’s personally experienced. As a child she witnessed domestic abuse and is currently living through the reality of a broken marriage due to infidelity.

In PART ONE we are discussing the revelations that led to the eventual breakdown of her marriage and all the emotions she experienced. She shares some of the warning signs that she ignored and how her lack of boundaries contributed to her missing opportunities to have the hard conversations about the things she was seeing and feeling.

She shares honestly about how it felt, what led to her missing the warning signs of her abusers and how she is now using these heinous events from her past, as a tool of empowerment for women in similar circumstances. 

Additionally, she shares about how she is navigating PTSD and other mental health disruptions that were brought on because of the traumatic events that she's endured.

Her message is one of perserverance, hope and a will to beat the odds that were stacked against her.
