On May 1, 1990, 16-year-old Billy Flynn and 17-year-old Patrick Randall broke in to Gregg Smart's condo. As Randall held a knife to the man's throat, Flynn fired a hollow-point bullet into his head, killing him. But there's only one person serving a life sentence for this murder-- Pam Smart. This week, Sarah takes us through this crazy story (our girl Pam is giving off some major middle-child energy, ya'll) and we take a side on the ethics of parole. Emily reminds us all that she is a prize to be won, thank you very much.

At 20 years old, she became the most photographed woman in the world. At 30, a photo of her would sell for upwards of $1,000,000. By 36, she was dead. This week, Emily takes us through the tragic death of the People's Princess, Diana Frances Spencer and her relationship with the British media. This isn't a deep dive episode in to Diana's life (but call Emily if you want to chat about that, because she loves this stuff), but instead, a look at the 24 hours surrounding her death and the forces at play that collided with devastating results that August night.

In the summer of 2021, Gabby Petito set out on a cross-country roadtrip with her fiancé, Brian. But when Brian returned to their Florida home in September without her, the story of Gabby gained international media attention and changed the way social media is used in the true crime community. This week, Sarah takes us through the timeline of the case, and you KNOW we take a side on the infamous body-cam footage. Emily reminds us that she didn't really pay attention in criminology class, and Sarah has some burning questions about the jurisdiction of the FBI.

Anni Dewani and her new husband, Shrien were on their honeymoon in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa when the unthinkable happened. But is the evidence surrounding the case enough to bring charges? This week, Emily picked a case that has Sarah's favorite: circumstantial evidence, while catering to her own personal favorite true crime trope too: dirtbag men! In June 1993, Lorena and John Bobbitt made international news when Lorena severed her husband’s penis with a kitchen knife while he was asleep in bed. This case gained notoriety for being one of the “most disturbing domestic dispute stories” to ever hit the news, but like usual, that wasn't the whole story. This week, Sarah takes us through this case, including our very own connections to the people involved in the story and asks Emily to take a side on the insanity defense. Emily is very distracted by the STAS email inbox, and is has some question about porn.
As mentioned in the episode, we made a donation to the Lorena Gallo Foundation, which advocates and supports those affected by domestic violence. You can read more about their work here: https://lorenagallofoundation.org

This week, Emily takes on a case that will surprise you! On June 4, 2010 seven year old Kyron Horman arrived at Skyline Elementary School with his stepmother Terri. They are there for the annual science fair, and multiple witnesses spot Terri and Kyron together, setting up his project on tree frogs. An hour later, Terri waves goodbye to Kyron and leaves the school. This is the last known sighting of the little boy and Emily is NOT OKAY YOU GUYS! Digressions include the world's deadliest animals and Emily puts on her mom hat to tell you why Terri's timeline of events makes absolutely no sense.

Would you know, without a shadow of a doubt, that the teenager standing before you with a different accent, different colored eyes, was the same boy that never came home from a neighborhood basketball game?
