✅ What is Executive Functioning: Described as the brain's "Air Traffic Control" for organizing, prioritizing, and regulating emotions. ✅ Impacts on Learning: Impaired Executive Function significantly affects students with autism, impacting their ability to learn and engage in busy environments. ✅ Emotional Control: Techniques include using sensory tools, emotion cards, and social scripts for improving behaviour and emotional regulation. ✅ Impulse Control: Redirection, prewarning about rules, and the use of social scripts to manage impulsivity. ✅ Planning & Prioritizing: Utilizing visual supports, individual planning sessions, and breaking tasks into smaller steps to enhance organization and goal achievement. ✅ Organizing: Implementing systems for organization, minimizing clutter, and using visual reminders for keeping track of items and information. ✅ Task Initiation: Partnering with peers, simplifying instructions, and employing strategies like the Traffic Light Strategy to help start tasks. ✅ Flexibility: Using timers, routines, and prewarnings to assist with transitions and changes in activities or plans. ✅ Working Memory: Incorporating visuals, modelling tasks, co-active participation, and simplifying instructions to support memory and task completion.
