About Kate Grandbois MS, CCC-SLP, BCBA, LABA & Amy Wonkka MA, CCC-SLP

Kate is a dually certified SLP / BCBA with 13 years of clinical experience working in private practice, outpatient clinics, outpatient hospital settings, and consulting to private schools and legal teams. She specializes in augmentative alternative communication, autism and associated disorders, language development, and integrating AAC into the educational/vocational programming of persons with behavioral needs. Her private practice, Grandbois Therapy + Consulting, LLC, focuses on multidisciplinary treatment, collaboration, and mentorship. She has served as an advisory board member for the HP Hacking Autism Initiative, as adjunct faculty at Northeastern University, and is the former president and co-founder of The Speech and Language Network, Inc. 

Amy has worked as a speech-language pathologist in the Northeast and Midwest. Prior to becoming an SLP, she worked for several years as a 1:1 paraprofessional and home service provider for individuals with complex communication needs. She has experience in home-based, public school, nonpublic school, and outpatient environments. Amy’s clinical interests include augmentative and alternative communication (AAC), autism and other related needs, typical language development, motor speech, phonology, data collection, collaboration, coaching, and communication partner training and support.

About Dr. Shameka Stanford MS, CCC-SLP

Dr. Shameka Stanford is an Associate Professor in the Communication Sciences and Disorders department at Howard University and the Juvenile Forensic Speech-Language Pathologist. Dr. Stanford is the first and only Juvenile Forensic SLP in the United States. 

Her clinical and scholarly work specializes in Juvenile Forensics, Law Enforcement Interaction with youth with CD, and child language disorders. Her research focuses on the Confluence and Impact of cognitive and communication disorders on the school-to-confinement pipeline, status offenses, involvement with the criminal justice system, law enforcement interaction, and criminal recidivism in youth placed at-risk for delinquency and crime (especially Black and Brown youth from under-resourced areas). 

Dr. Stanford is also a clinically certified and licensed speech-language pathologist and is licensed to practice in Maryland, Washington, D.C, and North Carolina. Through her work, she has created cutting edge social justice and juvenile justice specialty courses for graduate CSD students, nationally known training programs for law enforcement and legal counsel, and national and international CE workshops and training for licensed SLP clinicians.

About Shelley Bernis MA, CCC-SLP

Shelley Bernis is a native of Louisiana and graduated in 2008 with her master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Louisiana Tech University. She moved to Austin, Texas shortly after to begin her career as a Speech-Language Pathologist which is where she practices today. She also helped develop a grant-funded speech program with the Down Syndrome Association of Texas known now as PEAK (Parents Empowering Articulation in Kids). In 2018, Shelley created her own private practice, Empower TeleSpeech Therapy, where she conducts all therapy services via teletherapy. 

Soon after opening her practice, Shelley launched her Speech Empowerment Program which partners with college transition programs designed to support students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (Aggie ACHIEVE, ClemsonLIFE, and EAGLES Program at Auburn). Shelley’s program is the first of its kind to provide speech and language services to students in these transition programs. Her goal is to give these young adults the tools and confidence they need to communicate effectively as they pursue their dreams of higher education and independence. In her spare time, Shelley enjoys spending time with her husband, Warren, their two boys, Wesley and Jace, and their two beagles, Sadie and Rosco. They love hiking and camping in and around Austin. Shelley is also an avid reader and enjoys creating macrame art pieces.

Amy Prince and Amber Ladd are the co-founders of The TALK Team, a speech therapy practice located in Fresno, CA. They are both graduates of CSU Fresno, as are the majority of their on-staff therapists.
