Before she was ten years old, Elan had smoked weed and taken mushroom, which was common in the culture in which she was raised - traveling with the Grateful Dead as a child and teenager. Her early drug use escalated into opiate addiction as an adult. After getting sober, Elan discovered somatic therapy is a form of body-centered therapy that looks at the connection of mind and body and uses both psychotherapy and physical therapies for holistic healing.
