Pursuing your dream while working a 9 to 5 job, seems almost impossible for some people. They just don’t the possibility.
The first response from many who adhere to the “impossible” idea, is that they don’t have time or there’s not enough time in the day to do that.
What I’ve also heard is that they are too tired to even think of doing anything more at the end of the day.
I get that. It is indeed a challenge. Who wants to give more of themselves after a long day of work? Simple; the person who have a dream in their heart that needs to be released.
This was me in 2007 and 2008. I had a dream of being a Motivational Speaker, Writer and Life Coach. I wanted to start my own business so that I could do the things that I believe God placed on my heart.
For that to become a reality, something had to give. I could not continue to do life as usual. It no longer could be business as usual.
After a long career – 21 years – I decided to resign so I could pursue my dream.
However, before that took place, I was building or testing out whether or not the ideas I had would be marketable and profitable.
When I realized it could be marketed and monetized, I decided it was time. Was everything in place? No. I had to act in faith that I could do this and I would find a way to make it happen.
It has been a no-looking-back journey for me. I am at a place now that I know this is what I’m supposed to do. I am so entrenched in this dream pursuit, I now know I could not go back to the 9 to 5.
Here are the 5 tips that I found helpful in pursuing your dream while working your 9 to 5 J.O.B.
1. Set aside time each day to work on your dream idea
2. Have specific tasks to do during this time
3. Use commute time for self-development
4. Attend meetups, conferences, workshops, etc.
5. Take courses online through outlets like Udemy and Coursera, etc
With these 5 tips, I believe you’ll be able to pursue your dream and one day look back and be glad you did.
