Something Scary

It's St. Patrick's day this week. A day that commemorates the Saint and the arrival of Christianity in Ireland. It celebrates the Irish  luck that people feel because of the occasion. And while many of us count our blessings, and have moments of feeling lucky, there are those who seem absolutely cursed. Some people just can't catch a break, and suffer through with a string of terrible luck. Is it just a coincidence? Or was something done to anger the spirits? Either way when death comes knocking, you better hope your luck hasn't run out.

Women are strong, intuitive, and deeply powerful: mothers, daughters, sisters, friends, the ones who carry others and still manage to carry themselves. But strength like that doesn’t go unnoticed. There are forces that test it, and try to change it into something unrecognizable. Because when a woman refuses to break… sometimes, something else breaks instead. So sit back and enjoy as we share some creepy horror celebrating Women’s history month.

Somewhere, in a neighborhood that seems perfect, the air is too still, the windows too reflective, and the smiles a little too wide. Step outside, and you might not recognize what waits for you; step outside into the hellscape called suburbia, and you might not make it back into your home alive.

Somewhere at the edge of a marsh, the night waits like it knows your secrets. Heavy air presses against your chest, and the quiet feels alive. Sometimes, the things that come for you are already within before you even notice.

In honor of Black History Month, these stories come from African American folklore and early Black literature, where horror isn’t always about monsters, but about what history leaves behind.

They say love makes your heart race… but sometimes it’s not warmth you feel, it’s a desperation to run from the shadows that follow you. On nights when roses bloom and candles flicker, desire can turn dangerous, obsession can linger, and whispers can reach you from places you can’t see. This Valentine’s, some hearts beat… and some never stop.

Sometimes the smallest things are the deadliest. Tiny creatures, overlooked shadows, or whispered movements can harbor a hunger you can’t imagine, patient, relentless, waiting for the careless. And when they strike, there’s no warning, no escape… only the shiver that something unseen is always watching.

Sometimes, the ground beneath you isn't as solid as it seems. It shifts, breathes, and remembers. The forest doesn’t just grow, it watches, whispers, and waits for you. Every step you take awakens something that should’ve stayed buried. There are places where the earth hungers, where the trees are hungry for more than just your fear. And once you've crossed the line, there's no going back.

New Year’s promises are supposed to help you find a way to make life better: clean slates, fresh starts, a chance to finally outrun what’s been chasing you. But sometimes the moment the clock resets, something else does too… something patient, something evil that’s been waiting for the year to end. And once it starts, there’s no countdown left to stop it.

Christmas lights twinkle, party goers drift through the night, and the world seems safe and bright. But some holidays aren’t about joy, they’re about what lurks in the quiet spaces between the laughter. Tonight, when the snow settles and the fire crackles low, beware… because not all visitors come with gifts.
