May is Mental Health Awareness Month and all month long we will be focusing on mental health and how it relates to us and our community. Mental Health/Illness is something very near and dear to Instructor Sonny and other classmates. The objective is to help bridge the gap on how mental health impacts us knowingly and unknowingly every day.

TAs Megan Kearney and Dr. Jillian Lynum step into the classroom and share their information on daily life in working with people who have Mental Health challenges. Jillian and Megan both can speak from a perspective where their professions of being a therapist and social worker has allowed them to see a lot more of a need within our community as it relates to help, resources and guidance.

TAs Devon Cook and Antonia Young both couldn't help but to show class their passion for their field of work. Cook works with adults while Nia works with children/the youth who have behavioral, emotional and intellectual disorders and disabilities. They both openly share their love for the mental health community in addition to, ways that this has personally impacted them.

In Today's Lesson Plan: We are talking about the 8 Great Lessons Professor Forbes Learned in Year 28!

Instructor Sonny goes into great detail as she speaks on the 8 great lessons she learned in her 28 years of living. On this episode she breaks down her 12 months into eight lessons that helped shape her way of being and overall thought process. Although the list could have went on and on, she comprised everything into a more digestible game plan for all classmates. Keep in mind class, nothing is a major L if you learn from it. And can't nobody check you, when you check yourself! Now lets grow!!

In Today's Lesson Plan: We are wrapping up the First Quarter! 

Instructor Sonny is in the game and she is not playing too well. On this episode Instructor Sonny talks about her first quarter of the year. She breaks down the year into quarters and explains to class that just because you may start the game off rough does not mean that you can not redeem yourself, get back in and turn up on folk!

Instructor Sonny invites Teacher's Assistant Quiana on the show to break down the different types of BURN OUT you could be experiencing around this time of the year. Similar to episodes 13 & 14, wrapping up the year and dealing with the changes it can cause in life can be a lot. In this episode they talk about how they've dealt with it in the past and provide healthier ways to deal with the many pressures of BURN OUT for the future.

In Today's Lesson Plan: We are diving into Loneliness!!!

Instructor Sonny breaks down the different sectors of the word ALONE! The feeling of loneliness, being alone or being a loner. And of course she polls the class on their experiences with loneliness and how they cope. As we wrap, we talk deeper about how to notice your tiggers to address them in the long run!

Listen up as she reminds us that being/feeling alone is super normal. As long we don't sulk in our low moments, there is always room for us to rise up and be stronger!
