On this episode of Sooner State of Mind college football loses another one of its best coaches. Jim Harbaugh finally makes the jump back to the NFL. Harbaugh leaves Michigan for the Los Angeles Chargers. Not only that, but he is taking Michigan's defensive coordinator Jesse Minter with him. On this episode of Sooner State of Mind we finally get confirmation of the Zac Alley era in OU football. Zac Alley and Jay Valai will be the co-defensive coordinators for the Sooners in 2024. We will fill you in on just how Alley got to Norman. That is big news but not in comparison to the news of the college coaching GOAT of all time stepping away from the game. Nick Saban announced his retirement from college football and it shook the college football world. We will take a look back at how the Sooners fared going head to head against Saban. The fallout was fast and furious and even though the Crimson Tide were quick in finding their next head coach, the shoes that former Washington Huskies head coach Kalen Deboer and new Crimson Tide head coach is stepping into are pretty, pretty, pretty big. On this episode of Sooner State of Mind it feels like we are in midseason with all the news surrounding the program. There are a ton of topics to hit as we creep up on the Alamo Bowl against the Arizona Wildcats. This time of year is now synonymous with the transfer portal. Sometimes that is a good thing and sometimes not so much. The Sooners got a little of the not so much kind as freshman tackle Cayden Green announced or didn't announce he would be transferring to Missouri. On this episode of Sooner State of Mind we didn't expect to get to have so much heavy lifting, but after the chaos that ensued on Selection Sunday the entire college football world was up in arms with opinions. There were a couple of huge upsets including Alabama beating Georgia, but the biggest upset came on Sunday in Tallahassee. Starting with an undefeated ACC Champion Florida State getting left out of the College Football Playoff. So it's Michigan, Washington, Texas, and Alabama. that will compete for the title. As you can imagine this is stirring up a lot of different opinions. If you thought the committee was done sizzling teams, you would be wrong. The Sooners found out they would night be participants in a New Year's 6 Bowl Game, and that was enough to ignite more rage. If you thought the news would end there, you were also wrong as the transfer portal opened up, taking more than a handful of Sooners. The biggest name to make the list was one Dillon Gabriel. On this episode of Sooner State of Mind we are going through changes. Speculation started to percolate that Jeff Lebby would soon be on his way to become the next head coach at Mississippi State. Soon after that speculation was confirmed. So with Lebby gone, where would the Sooners turn for their next offensive coordinator? Brent Venables and company decided to promote from within. The University of Oklahoma announced on Wednesday that Seth Littrell and Joe Jon Finley would become the new co-offensive coordinators. we will dive into that decision and get a little more history on both of the new coordinators and the impact it will have on the program. We will get into all of that, as well as preview some of the best games of Conference Championship weekend. On this episode of Sooner State of Mind we celebrate our first road trip to Provo, Utah with a nail biting 31-24 win over the BYU Cougars. This game was a lot closer and tougher than most expected going in to it. The Sooners were tested time and time again, but when the moment was the biggest the Sooners had players step up into the spotlight and help keep OU's Big 12 Championship Game dreams alive. Billy Bowman had the biggest play of the day with a 100 yard pick 6 that would give OU a lead and help propel them to victory. Unfortunately we didn't get the help we needed from our conference brethren but with one week left in the regular season, our dream remains alive. With the short holiday week, we will get an early start at previewing the Sooners final home game against TCU. This is gonna be a good one and is a must win for an opportunity to chase OU's 15th and final Big 12 title. We also recap some of the best games of Week 12 of the college football season as well as look ahead to some major games in Week 13. All that and more!
