Catherine Haggarty is an artist and curator based in Brooklyn, New York.
She received her M.F.A Rutgers University in 2011 and is currently the co-director of Ortega y Gasset an artist run space in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
Catherine is the recipient of the ESKFF Emerging Artist Grant and Residency, the DNA Gallery Residency, a Vermont Studio Center Residency and most recently, The Look e Listen Residency in Marsielle France (2017).
Her work has been reviewed in Hyperallergic and Two Coats of Paint and exhibited at, LeftField Slo (CA), The Provincial (MI), Bridget Mayer Gallery (PA), Art on Paper Fair (Armory Week), Geoffrey Young Gallery (MA), Design Sublime (FLA) Proto Gallery (NJ) and Ortega y Gasset Projects (NYC)
Her curatorial work and writing includes Curating Contemporary, The Curator, Ortega y Gasset Projects, White Box and Proto Gallery.
Teaching experience includes but is not limited to Rutgers University, Abrons Art Center, Studio in a School, Princeton Day School, Philadelphia Mural Arts and One River School of Art and Design.
Brian went to Catherine’s Gowanus studio to talk about her days growing up in NJ, her move to NYC, co-running an artist run gallery and what she is working on in her paintings.
