“Talk AUT Loud – but low-key”

Our first bilingual talk featuring autism experts Maja Toudal and Bo Hejlskov Elvén. We recorded it as a live podcast in Bielefeld in mid-June, with attendees of the international AUTEA conference in the audience.

Joining us on stage: Maja Toudal, an autistic psychologist from Denmark. She knows what it’s like to grow up with non-autistic parents. Today, she acts as a bridge-builder through her work as a therapist and speaker, as well as through her books. She is also raising a young daughter herself.

Bo Hejlskov Elvén lives and works in Sweden as a neuropsychologist. He, too, knows how to build bridges between autistic and non-autistic people. He has adult autistic children of his own and is globally renowned for his concept of a calm, low-arousal approach. His area of ​​expertise lies in managing challenging situations in daily care settings.

How can we better understand one another? This question is on the minds of many parents of autistic children. How do we avoid misunderstandings? Autism-friendly communication fosters more relaxed interactions in schools and residential care settings, too. We discussed how to achieve this.
