They said Maharashtra cricketers cannot succeed while putting in the hard yards on Mumbai maidans. He did. They said Maharashtra batters couldn't score away from Nehru Stadium. He did. They said Maharashtra as a team can rarely deliver consistently. He was instrumental in shaping the golden generation of Maharashtra's Ranji Trophy team that fared consistently for a decade starting the mid-80s. Milind Gunjal proved virtually everyone wrong with his stellar batting at all the levels he got an opportunity at. Still, the only thing he couldn't change was to earn the India cap and end up as one of the top names on the long list of "Maharashtra's unfortunate cricketers to have not represented India" in international cricket. Let's walk down the memory lane with Milind Gunjal himself.

India's chess has come of age. But the fact that it is a supepower has been stamped with a sensational all-round outing in the 2024 Chess Olympiad at Budapest, Hungary. With a tally of six gold medals - including open and women's team titles - India has literally clean-swept the top honours at the prestigious event. Chess analyst Lokesh Natoo and The Hindu's sports journalist Amol Karhadkar join Sports Katta's Aditya Joshi to shed light on the lead-up and the significance of the achievement.

She holds numerous world records. But even today, her passion is not really considered 'sport'. It has been over a decade since she was honoured with the Padma Shri. Yet she still has to go struggle for being acknowledged by - and seek permissions from - various authorities. Despite all this, nobody has been able to deter Sheetal Mahajan from her goal. Having overcome, various challenges and hurdles over the past two decades, Sheetal Mahajan has made great strides in the field of skydiving. She has indeed emerged as an inspiration for young athletes in the country. On the occasion of Daughter's Day, let's meet the girl who flies high into - and dives from - the sky.

No doubt Bangladesh are in form, having beaten Pakistan in Pakistan last month. Still, facing India on home soil has not been anyone's cup of tea. So the result of the two-Test series may be all but given but Weekly Katta gives you plenty of reasons why you should follow the series and Sports Katta.

"He eats Mumbai cricket, he sleeps Mumbai cricket and he breathes Mumbai cricket." The description fits Milind Rege, a stalwart! A prolific allrounder and a multiple Ranji Trophy champion. Rege recovered from a heart ailment to return to lead Mumbai. After retiring early in quest of a prospering corporate career, Rege thrived as a selector. He spotted a talent as progious as his childhood friend Sunil Gavaskar in Sachin Tendulkar and convinced his selection committee seniors to pick Tendulkar in the Ranji Trophy squad. Then on, till picking the likes of Prithvi Shaw and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rege has played a a crucial role in Mumbai cricket's success story. In a freewheeling chat on Kattyawarchya Gappa with Amol Karhadkar, The Hindu's sports journalist, Rege narrates his terrific tale
