Today I chat with ex police officer Helen Rose who is the creator of the Mental Mentor app.
An advocate for PTSI (post traumatic stress injury) being recognized as a injury and not a disorder (PTSD) Helen shares her story and long healing journey which lead her to create the app which is not only a benefit for people with PTSI or any mental diagnosis, but for all of our mental well-beings!
I learn about EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) which is a proven therapy that helped release the stored trauma from her body and heal her.
We also discuss the importance of finding the right therapist to work with, if you don’t click with the first one, keep trying! Don’t give up.
We discuss how we can learn from our indigenous culture by reconnecting to nature and grounding our selves, and Helen's ancient smoke ceremony experience.
Helen also shares some advise for those of us who are carer's for friends and family during mentally difficult times.
