  • Singularity of Mindset

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about expanding his resistance zone of swimming to over 6km by using the power of singularity and positivity in his mindset and deciding to push through the wall.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I’m training for a 16km swim and there’s a stage called ‘hitting the wall’ that my body wouldn’t allow me to pass despite various types of preparation. I picked a spot to swim to and back that would break that resistance, the currents pushed and rolled me. It wasn’t the water for using the best technique for endurance swimming and conserving energy.
    • I was there, present in that moment, and today I broke 6.95km. That singularity aids in determination, motivation, it assists the cognitive process because there aren’t multiple subjects or elements that need to be fulfilled, there’s just one aim, one objective.
    • As humans, we naturally over complicate where we are and where we want to be. There are so many factors involved in whatever part of life in which we’re looking to improve. We cease to see in the singular, when it comes to mindset singularity is a determining factor in achieving one’s goals.
    • The four-minute mile wasn’t broken until Roger Bannister did it. After that people thought it was achievable and they began to run four-minute miles. Something changed in their mindsets, it was a transition from the mindset into a singularity of objective: “I am going to break the four-minute mile” – it doesn’t matter how and by how much, just that I will.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Is today the right day? Should I wait for a better day? Today was going to be the day no matter what.’

‘Singularity is so important in mindset’

‘Break down your goals to achieve that singularity and you will, without question, achieve that goal.’

‘The stronger the foundation the stronger the structure, the less likely the structure is to break.’

    ABOUT THE HOST

Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.

    Why?

Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!

    How?

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • The oxygen candle is being burned at both ends and it’s just a matter of time until it’s too late to even reverse it unless we do something. To slow it down we need education.
    • It’s mind blowing to me that multi-billionaires aren’t coming together to do something about it now. Bill Gates could probably save the situation on his own!
    • My parents raised seven boys and I saw the amount of time my father worked and knew our time together, when we had it, was precious. Seeing his work ethic and him working his ass off was an inspiration to me to keep going.
    • What drives me now is seeing people’s eye light up when I take them to places they can surf waves they can’t reach unless they go by boat, or even take them down to Baja, Mexico to experience the sight, sounds, food, and even smells of a new place as well as the surf down there.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Nobody knows about the dredging of the ocean floor.’

‘Never give up but know that it’s not going to last forever so take full advantage and don’t take things for granted.’

‘Health is the big driver for me now. Treat your body as a temple. Anyone can do it, it’s all about motivation.’

    ‘Do epic shit.’

  • Judging A Book By Its Cover

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks about judgement and especially how those being judged could respond to being judged and how you choose to judge someone reflects on your inner workings and reveals more about yourself than the person you’re judging.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • There are two types of people in this world: emotional eaters and non-emotional eaters. I am striving to be a better person every day, which means making better food choices and recognising when my body is tricking me.
    • You might think I can’t make it, but I can and I will. This body has carried me to achieve my goals and ambitions. My shape doesn’t mean I’m unfit. I played 2 and a half hours of competitive tennis last week. Maybe that’s not such a big thing, but not only did I do that, I did 40 minutes of walking to get there and then jogged back uphill and the whole 10k home. I’m not training to run or play tennis
    • I know who I am and I know what I’m capable of, I’ve met my demons and I am fit. You can judge me with whatever your eyes are showing you, reflecting you from within your own self. I am living in my own greatness and I will not be suffocated.
    • You don’t need to be in that lower vibration, you don’t need to be anything but your authentic self. If you choose to be your authentic self you will be outstanding. Don’t live in judgement of others and always know what’s behind the cover of your own book.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘There is no mastery without consistency.’

‘Your demons will tell you not to do the challenging thing you’ve chosen to do. They’re lying to you.’

‘I am enough. I welcome fear. I welcome doubt. I’m going to win all day long.’

    ‘Stay outstanding’

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I had a full on breakdown at mile 44 of a 100 mile ultra-marathon I was running, I was in the middle of a canyon with no one else around and I lost it, I started crying because I’d lost my wife of 10 years, my dad had just passed away and here I was torturing my body. At that point I realised that we’re all only here for one shot at life and do I really want to be doing this? It was my escape from everything happening in my life. Right there I decided I didn’t need to do ultra-marthons and when I became a legit tour operator.
    • We’re both fortunate to swim, trail run, surf or mountain bike and it’s unfortunate that others reach for the bottle or the crack-pipe. I like to say, there’s always someone in the world that’s having a worse day than you. Don’t take for granted how fortunate we are.
    • The Tijuana River runs in and out of the US and Mexico and into the sea and it’s very polluted, especially when there have been heavy rains. The plastic situation that’s so well documented now was going on all the way back in the 1980s and 90s. Luckily the US government is pouring money into trying to fix the situation along the coastline.
    • I work with Feeding San Diego as I remember queueing in the foodline with my mum to pick up whatever food we needed and they were giving away. I’d love to get to a point where I can also donate to groups to do with cleaning up the ocean, especially as the ocean gave me my life.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘It’s all mindset. You tell your body that you can do it and you’re gonna do it.’

‘Some of us have to fail to realise what we want to do. Don’t be afraid to fail.’

‘We’re suffocating ourselves [dumping plastic in the sea] and we’re going to kill ourselves.’

‘China produces a million plastic bottles per minute!’

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I have a dream that one day, Mother Earth, our dearest planet, sweltering in the foul abuse of man and the oppression of man’s selfishness, will be transformed into an oasis of natural environment as it was when man first inhabited it.
    • We’ve come to this hallowed moment in time to remind all of Mother Earth’s children of the fierce urgency of now.
    • All brothers and sisters must come together to support our survival, to support our survival, to preserve our existence, to thrive in a time when we are challenged, to create and not consume.
    • Rarely are we invited to impact so greatly, on a scale of such magnitude with just a small kind action of love today.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘They said my dream was too big, they said my dream would never be realised.’

‘One day all children will live on a planet without ignorance, suffering or plight of it’s natural environment.’

‘Now is time to make real the promise of caring for our planetary home.’

‘Would you let another stop your dream from coming true?’

  • A New Hope

In this first episode of the Stay Outstanding podcast, your host Gavin Scott reveals the secret origin of the podcast. From seeing mysterious lights on Gibraltar to swimming from Spain to Morocco and helping clean the oceans, this is Gavin’s platform to get his voice heard and share his story to hopefully make the world a better place not just for those that are here today, but those who will be here tomorrow.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • For many years I’ve been trying to change my own plastic habits, so I decided to help clean up the ocean in whatever way possible, whether that’s raising financial support to donate or however else I could help.
    • I’ve gone through my own challenges in life and I thought that there must be a way to share my challenges and how I’ve dealt with them to help others going through the same challenges.
    • I believe in human potential. The only limits are the ones we place on ourselves. So, without thinking too much more about it I set up the Stay Outstanding podcast.
    • Being better suggests there’s a temporary sense of being better, one where you don’t have to consciously acknowledge every single day that we could be better, that we could just be better consistently. Where you could be in a state of bliss every single day without having to work to be there. What are you willing to do to experience that and live that life?

    BEST MOMENTS

‘If you don’t know what your ‘why’ is in front of a challenge, you’ll never break through.’

‘We consume so much plastic every day, but we can always see it. The out-of-sight-out-of-mind principle.’

‘When you speak to people you connect with people, when you connect with people you give the opportunity to inspire.’

    ‘Fight for a better tomorrow.’
