  • Words Of Encouragement

In this episode Gavin is back in the car, driving around London, and talking to us about the fact he’s back in the pool training for his swim across the Gibraltar Straits Challenge and some words of encouragement he took from a guy at the pool.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I was swimming at a pace to try to qualify to swim my challenge and a guy asked me about it and commented on my style. Since I’ve started training for the last year I’ve come a long way but I haven’t been working with a coach for a long time, so I don’t know how well I’m doing. So, words of encouragement from a complete stranger were nice to hear and helped me improve my times by 10-15%.
    • I’ve gone from bi-lateral breathing to breathing once every two strokes to improve my glide, improve my stroke and keep more oxygen in my lungs.
    • Wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, be kind to each other, be pleasant, be happy, smile, make other people smile. The world is a better place if we’re all happier and nicer to each other. Who doesn’t want that?

    BEST MOMENTS

‘When swimming you know when you’re exhausting yourself and you know when you’re in flow.’

‘There’s people walking around with weapons out there but I’m not allowed to film my training sessions for this challenge. Maybe the general manager of my pool here will bend the rules and let me.’

‘Go out into your world today and give somebody some words of encouragement. See how it feels to give those words of encouragement. In time they’ll come back to you, then see how it feels to receive them. Not how it makes you feel.’

  • Living With Cancer - Jules Fielder

In this episode of the podcast Gavin is joined by Jules Fielder who proves to be a shining light in the same way Gavin wants to. Jules is facing a terminal cancer diagnosis in as positive a way as she can.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I had the most success on my weight loss journey when I started to blog because it gave me the ultimate accountability, so I couldn’t just hot the fridge in those dark moments and stuff my face. But my Instagram tells a slightly different story these days after my diagnosis.
    • I had been going to the doctors for a while with different things going on in my body and, because you couldn’t see a doctor during Covid, I was put on a lot of video consultations and was given physio to do at home. Then I went into hospital with a really crackly voice which they said was down to wearing my PPE. Then I noticed a pea-sized lump at the base of my neck, so I asked specifically for a face-to-face appointment which ended up being stage 4 double lung cancer with a rare form of mutation and it had spread to my spine and pelvis. In a matter of seconds my life just changed.
    • You have to accept that you have to ride those emotions out. There are days that I’m frustrated, angry, trying to lay blame: “It must be someone’s fault”, it’s a natural human instinct to have. You’ll never know the answer to your questions about it, so you just have to ride it out.
    • People shouldn’t be scared of their voices. It’s really important to really in tune and listen to your body. For some people it’s a hard habit to get into, you see the shower or the bath as something functional, you have to do it before you get to where you need to be. You need to be in tune and know what’s normal in your body. I didn’t know the shoulder was linked to the lung! If I can share this information with other people and give them the confidence to go and get check, that keeps me going.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘Having the diagnosis I got was shit, but I’ve made peace with it now and I think that’s the first thing you should do. I could cry all day long and crawl under a rock but what will I achieve? I can’t change it.’

‘I’ve got a job to do now being an advocate and an inspiration for my son who’s just about to turn 13.’

‘It was explained to me basically that two cells met on the wrong pathway, they collided and sparked a firework. I did nothing wrong, it was all out of my control.’

‘I want to see parts of the world or even the country I’ve never been to, and I’d love to meet a member of the Royal Family, specifically William and Kate!’

    ABOUT THE GUEST

Jules, was misdiagnosed by GPs on various occasions and has sadly been diagnosed with Stage 4 incurable lung cancer adenocarcinoma EGFR mutation spread to the spine and pelvis at the age of 37.

Jules is an amazing lady who, even though she is going through the toughest of times, remains positive and determined to help others and raise awareness of lung cancer. She remains positive and up-beat and being able to raise money for this one of a kind charity will bring the biggest smile to her face.

  • Interacting with Strangers

In this episode Gavin is back in the car and talking to us about a visit to an art shop with his step sister. Art shops are a different environment that Gavin is used to being in, despite the fact it’s still a business environment. He wants to impart how we can interact, as humans and strangers, and have a positive impact on people’s lives.

You can donate to Gavin’s JustGiving page for The Ocean Cleanup by clicking here: https://bit.ly/3DRZefO

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to The Ocean Cleanup, so it's the most efficient way to give - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • My sister was talking to the shop assistant who had her face almost entirely obscured by a mask and glasses and this lady turns to my sister and says ‘you’re the prettiest lady I’ve ever seen. She’s never met Natalie and has no reason to say that, but it made her day and they started to converse and then Natalie and I wished her a nice afternoon and evening. We all left feeling positive.
    • We’re so programmed to not think about others around us, we have our busy lives to get places and do things, especially in cities. There’s a natural instinctive pressure to be somewhere else. If you’re trying to get somewhere else you’re not being present.
    • If everything is energy and energy is everything, which we know the world is, what we put out into the world is what it will give back.
    • Monitor and write down things that you’ve said during the day. You’ll find that they will have just come out in the moment, responding in the moment. Once you’ve acknowledged that scenario you were in could have been different if you’d said something else, perhaps write that down below what you did say. Then put it out into the world, actively change the words and language you’re using and direct that language through a much more heart centred, loving combination of words.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘How we choose to use our words and direct them can have an impact on somebody close to us or somebody around us.’

‘It was only by being present that I was able to receive a gift from and give a gift back to that lady.’

‘How often do you think about what you’re saying, or determine that you want to live more in heart and give more love top the world by choosing your words and language and how you’re going to direct them?’

‘If you don’t become are you’ll never change. It doesn’t take up that much time, you can still do the things you would otherwise do’

  • Zero Waste with Dinah Stark - Part 2

In this episode of the podcast Gavin is joined again by Dinah Stark who is here to continue their conversation. In the second part of the episode, Dinah explains a bit more about the zero waste community she has joined in Portugal.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to The Ocean Cleanup, so it's the most efficient way to give - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • It was a strong decision for me to move to Portugal from Germany and not everyone understood it, but they were calling me and I could hear it super-loud. When I make a decision I go for it. I had a really intense experience of leaving because Covid meant I couldn’t say goodbye properly. But, I bought a van a year and a half ago and I now live in that van with the community project.
    • In the community we teach yoga and how to properly dispose of waste as well as Portuguese lessons to help us integrate into the local society. We also teach about masturbation, sexuality, and other processes that – as a woman – you don’t really know about. It’s another very big topic I’m learning about now! There’s so much shame around all these topics as well as a lack of knowledge. It’s about connecting with yourself in this way as well.
    • When we are all really committing, showing up and are dedicated to do the work we are doing, that we need these places where it’s possible to do that and heal old wounds, not just from us but from our ancestors. I’m creating a new way of living without criticising the one I had before, creating something new, finding ways and experimenting with how it can work for everyone.
    • A lot of people don’t want to see it, they feel uncomfortable. And if that’s the way you are, I won’t be able to change your point of view. But, if you are open and feel things are a little bit weird or off for you then please do something and don’t put alcohol, food or drugs on top of it and think it’ll go away. There are so many options and the best way to start id to start small.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘I was feeling really bad and the Earth was saying you “have to be here”, that’s when I realised I had to focus either on the community project in Portugal or the store in Germany.’

‘The transition to living a nature-connected life made me feel instantly at home.’

‘We would like to create a space for people to live as their authentic and true self. We want to have everybody in their full potential, power and passion. It will be like heaven on Earth.’

‘I can really do something beautiful with my excrement, it’s gold for growing food. It’s not bad or disgusting.’

    ABOUT THE GUEST

Dinah Stark had what most people would consider a good job in a big company, earning good money, but she wasn’t happy. She started seeing a psychologist and by getting this heal and getting to know herself she decided to get in contact to her inner child again and turned her back on what others expected her to do and follow her path to starting her own zero waste, vegan friendly café/shop in Germany and eventually moving to live in a community project in Portugal.

  • Son Of A Preacher

This is the first episode of the podcast Gavin has made since the podcast began being published, so the beginning of the episode is about saying thank you to everyone who has listened so far and has given feedback, which includes allegations of preachiness.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to The Ocean Cleanup, so it's the most efficient way to give - saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • Some of the feedback I’ve received on the podcast so far is that I come across a bit preachy at times. I can assure you I’m not trying to do that, and I’ll try to do a better job in the future. It’s difficult to get one’s opinion across in this format as I can’t see your reaction.
    • I’ve been on my own journey of self-help/improvement/betterment, however you wish to phrase it. I’ve got one eye on creating the best content I can and another in the direction in which I want to take it. This is part of my own journey that I’m sharing with you and if parts of it resonates with you, great, if parts don’t, that’s no problem at all.
    • By improving my own craft I’ll get better. What’s interesting is that in self-improvement it’s the same thing: New level, new devil. Each time you improve it doesn’t mean you’ve reached your full potential, it just means you’ve reached a new level of being/contentment/fulfilment. We need to take one step at a time rather than trying to get there all at once. Break it down.
    • I really do hope you guys get value and insight from this and I appreciate your continued feedback. It’s documenting my own journey and hopefully will help other who are or were in a similar position of changing careers.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘This is about me sharing my experiences with you and sharing the experiences of my guests with you.’

‘It’s important to have one eye on what’s going on now and one on the periphery, on what’s going on in the distance.’

‘I hope you guys can feel what it’s like to start a new career, a new venture.’

‘Use the information you’re getting from within. Don’t listen to people commenting. Be confident in your own being and your own direction.’

  • Zero Waste with Dinah Stark - Part 1

In this episode of the podcast Gavin is joined by Dinah Stark who is here to talk about her journey to reconnecting with herself after being too preoccupied with the corporate world and worrying too much about what others thought she should be doing. She shares how she meditates through yoga, but also how those who don’t feel comfortable with sitting still can achieve a deep connection with their inner child.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • In my late-20s I was questioning what love is, what I was doing with my life, why I’m here and I quit my job without anything to go on to. Something inside of my wanted to come out, but it felt big and scary. I took a year off and decided I want to open a café where you can read books, that sold vegan food and promoted coming together with music and talking. People tried to talk me out of it and the cycle started again in my 30s. I noticed it this time and decided to really find something I was interested in and to find my place.
    • Meditation with my inner child was a big thing for me, to really connect with this part of me, and to tune back into myself with meditation and yoga because I was a lot outside myself, in other people’s feelings and what other people thought about me, I wasn’t in contact with myself. Day-to-day practicing of these things is like training a muscle.
    • Some people find it hard to sit still and meditate so they find it easier to go for a walk or a drive or riding a bike. I was guided in my first inner child meditation, I met her face to face and she was so mad at me and screaming “what are you doing?! You are not in contact with nature, you loved nature as a kid, you wanted to save the ocean!”
    • Hearing about all the animals in the ocean dying from our trash helped me to be more aware of the trash I create and made me want to join the Zero Waste Movement. My whole lifestyle changed because I was questioning everything that I was using, including all the stuff I was put into my face, what I buy, where I buy it and what happens afterwards when I throw it away – there is no away, you have to be aware of what happens afterwards with that product.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘I don’t feel awakened, I just feel myself being more awake, more aware, more questioning things, more feeling into things.’

‘There are many ways to meditate and connect with your inner self, there’s no one way for everyone. Some are easy and others are not so easy.’

‘I’d never had a moment before where I’d really loved myself. I was crying, I was so touched by that feeling.’

‘I felt like I can do anything, I don’t know how to do it but I do it and it just works.’

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I’ve seen so many people, frequently including myself, at a restaurant, at a pub, at a bar, in a park, on their own or with friends and family, having a drink. One person is speaking, some are listening and some are on their phones. When you’re on your phones you tend to look down and you can see who’s around you, who’s leaving the room or coming into the room. Maybe this place you’re in is the place you’re going to mee a partner, a business colleague, someone who could come into your life and have an effect, but you won’t see it happening.
    • Crossing the road only using your ears rather than your sight. You could be hit by a car, you could have seen it coming and had the opportunity not to be hit by that car if only you’d opened your eyes.
    • There’s a moment where you could have connected with someone. If you’d just looked up and smiled, you could have made them smile too. Smile and the world smiles with you.
    • I was talking about investments the other night and it got my excited. If I had not been participating in that conversation at the moment and I was looking down at my phone I could have missed out on the opportunity to invest with likeminded, knowledgeable people about investing in rare whiskey or cryptocurrencies.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘I’ve started to raise my phone to my eye-level instead of looking down when I’m using my phone’

‘The world needs smiles right now.’

‘As an entrepreneur, I can’t tell you how much joy I take from opportunities.’

‘What a great opportunity I’ve been gifted in traffic to improve my ability to be patient.’

  • What is an Entrepreneur? With Rob Moore

In this episode of the podcast Gavin is joined by Rob Moore, author, double world record holder, multi-millionaire, the UK’s biggest business podcaster, an educator, creator, mentor to millionaires all over the world. The pair discuss what an entrepreneur is and what their role is now in the world post-Covid.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I think the term entrepreneurship has evolved. When you look in the dictionary is says an entrepreneur would take a risk in the hop of profit, but I don’t think hope is a strategy. What the modern entrepreneur does is create useful and meaningful products and services that make a difference and matter to potentially vast numbers of people. Entrepreneurs like to stay lean and agile, to do multiple ventures, not just one – unlike small and large business owners – and they evolve as there’s disruption and change.
    • Zoom exploded in lockdown and Deliveroo did great business. You might say they had the right business model, but you could have evolved. It was illegal to do events during the lockdown and I own an events company that did north of $15million a year in revenue with 85-odd staff in that company. An entrepreneur will get past the frustrations and ask what’s the new problem and what’s the new solution, where are the new opportunities?
    • All of the standard things people say are good for impacting your energy: sleep, good diet, exercise, cold showers are great. But all of them combined don’t get close to having your passion as your profession and your vocation being your vacation. You could give a teenager the worst food and they would still play a video game for 16 hours through the night, no sweat. Why? Because they love it. I can burn the midnight oil in that way because I love what I do and I do what I love.
    • I don’t think I’m outstanding or great at one thing, I’m a jack of a few trades. But to Stay Outstanding means to stand out and to stand out is to unapologetically be yourself because naturally, if you are truly yourself you will stand out because we are all individuals.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘I can’t think of a business idea I haven’t used, which means I’m either doing too much or I’m pretty productive.’

‘The real pandemic has been fear, it’s lowered the global consciousness.’

‘Passion, controlled, is the greatest source of energy mankind can tap into and I don’t know why no one else really talks about it.’

‘If you want to make a difference in many people’s lives you’re going to piss people off along the way. If you’re not pissing people off you’re not doing enough and you’re not putting yourself out there enough and you’re not being authentic enough.’

Gavin Scott is a born entrepreneur with a passion for start up and scale up. He has over 20 years real estate experience in investment and development.

Gavin says: Over the years I have discovered that mindset is everything. Now, that might sound obvious, but it is! You see the number of awoken minds are very few in reality. Whilst acknowledging mindset is key it is absolutely different from utilising, influencing, impacting and effecting great change, for yourself, your loved ones, friends, colleagues and the wider public.

    Why?

Like most of us I have had many ups and downs. I want to share the lessons learnt and promote a better environment for all, internally and externally!

    How?

Through sharing my own experiences and hosting some fabulous individuals including some big household names to discuss key topics around mindset and the success formulas I hope the listener will become inspired to create space for change for betterment in their lives. I aim to inspire change by encouragement, not by force. I intend to inspire by education, not by regulation.

  • Birthday Blues

In this episode of the podcast Gavin talks from his car, driving across London as he is visiting his Dad in London who is unwell at the moment. It was Gavin’s birthday this weekend and he met up with some old friends and family, he experienced great waves of love, but he wants to warn about the ego whispering in your ear after the party has finished.

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • I met with some old friends on Friday night, and I’d not seen a few of them in two years due to Covid and we had a great time, staying out til 6 in the morning. On Saturday we went for dinner and drinks and continued into the night, and it was a lot of fun. I was also thinking about who I should be seeing as my Dad has just got out of hospital and is fairly vulnerable. I woke up late on the Sunday to see family
    • I don’t think as humans – and particularly as men – we stop to understand what that actually does for us. It was love, care, joy, support. When that comes in such big waves and doses you really get off on a high. You are loved. But the ego can get involved, and when you’re not in those waves it can tell you that you’re not loved. This happens more so when you’re struggling, and times are challenging, and you begin to think you’re alone.
    • You’re not in those people’s minds when you’re asking, do my family and friends think about me, do they really love me, do they miss me? But when you’re present with them you really do feel their love and support. Just because you’re not present with them – for whatever reason – it doesn’t mean that the love, care support and joy has changed. Your ego is choosing to change the way that you perceive, it’s taking control and playing tricks on you. The reality is those people’s love doesn’t change. It’s there.
    • That feeling of the big waves of love and joy can be felt all the time, we just choose not to. We have to override what our brain tells us, especially in today’s world where we’re so busy that we don’t take the time to control the mind. But take the time, give gratitude for all the loved ones, friends and family you’ve got in your life. Even if you’re going through a hard time right now, you’ll have someone, everybody’s got someone. Choose to accept their love every moment of every day and don’t let it weaken. Love it back.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘It was such a joy to see people after so long.’

‘Ego is a beautiful thing, but unless we control it, it can be a nasty thing.’

‘You choose that that love and support is not there when it categorically is! It’s there every day.’

‘We are all the same: We are beings of light and love.’

  • Success Is A Mind Game with Steve Sharpley

In this episode of the podcast Gavin is joined by Steve Sharpley, and ex-Silicon Valley corporate worker and author of the book ‘Success Is A Mind Game’, who got into the world of leadership and high performance deliverance for corporates after having slight meltdown himself.

You can donate to Gavin’s JustGiving page for The Ocean Cleanup by clicking here: https://bit.ly/3DRZefO

    KEY TAKEAWAYS

    • My meltdown wasn’t a serious one, I just got hacked off with management leadership – in 15 years I’d only had one good boss – and quit without anything to go on to. I then drove around the Scottish countryside for two weeks to clear my head. When I came back my girlfriend at the time asked me what I really wanted to do, that really got me thinking about what was really important to me. So, I took a psychology degree and a masters in change, performance and leadership.
    • The practical psychology where you’re understanding the human condition, which is at the heart of my book – Success Is A Mind Game. I’d been introduced to that about 10 years before I wrote the book and it changed the way I viewed life. I realised that I’d messed my life up by how I thought about situations, especially if things didn’t turn out the way I thought they should.
    • As we get out of a downward spiral of thinking our state comes back up as well towards being more present. It can be as simple as reading a joke, going to have a cup of tea or coffee and really concentrating on the taste and the flavours in your mouth.
    • I was trying to help people translate what they’re reading into an experience, so they learn to notice things and reflect on that to make their own sense. Don’t try to think to much about things, listen for a feeling, see if it shifts how you feel. Hopefully you’ll feel more calm and connected. When our mind quietens down, we naturally get more creative. Our feelings are an infallible guide for our internal state of mind, we can’t manufacture them or make them be one thing if they’re something else.

    BEST MOMENTS

‘I want to help people have a better experience at work and be even more effective.’

‘I started seeing the links between golf and business and my experience, going back to the game with my new understanding transformed my game. I was able to be in it, present, not thinking about anything else.’

‘The mind is not bad or good, it’s a tool. Like our intellect.’

‘We need to unlearn and re-discover a lot of things we know intuitively. When kids get upset their parents distract them and give them something else to do or a bit of attention, as adults we forget that that’s all we need as well.’
