In this Quick Tip call Karl Kaufman from American dream investing tells us about the dangers of diversification for individual investor. "You don't have a team of researchers with you so if you're going to pick stocks you really only have the focus and attention that you could really give to a handful of stocks".
Karl Kaufman is from American Dream Investing, a family owned financial membership service and news publication that shares independent and unconventional thoughts on building wealth through the stock market. Here's a link to the full episode: https://www.stocksforbeginners.net/blog/kaufman

She joined Vanguard ETFs in 2008 ($870B) to build out their ETF business, quite the time, then moved to Goldman Sachs Alternatives group. Following this, she became an SVP at SSGA ($580B) in institutional investing tasked with a $3 billion region, finally coming to First Trust ($63B) to build the LatAm investment business from the ground up. Codie has led global teams in all asset classes, negotiating JV's, product creation and market entry across the Americas.

My guest today has seen grown, mature, successful individuals open their first brokerage account and turn into 16 year olds who just got their driver's licence, their parents got them a brand new Lamborghini, and there's a bottle of whiskey in the passenger seat. The Stock Market will do that to some people. Roger is the Founder and CEO of Market Forecasting Academy, a training and mentorship program for market participants looking for low risk, consistent, market-beating performance. Throughout the years, he's noticed that traders/investors often place too much emphasis on the technology aspect when, in fact, all it does is facilitate the gathering and calculating of necessary data which saves a person time.

What happens when a mathematician shares a room with an economist at college? The mathematician doesn't come from an investment background but he'd like to make some money and the economist has a dream to launch a hedge fund. It may not have been quite as simple as that, but I enjoyed hearing the story of Michael Mills and his co-founder Nicholas B. Spoors building the Infinitary Fund from humble beginnings at college.

Successful financial management is not only about picking the right investments, it can also be about overcoming poor role models in your life. Phil Weiss and I sat down to discuss how he took action to avoid following in his father's financial footsteps. He shared great tips on getting rid of credit card debt, how his accounting training helps to identify the numbers that matter in company financials, the stocks that he's held onto for over 25 years, how value investing has changed, and his client who bought $300 worth of Apple stock soon after listing which has now grown to 2,100 shares. Not a bad return for doing nothing for 40 years. Phil also spoke about the Triple-Tax-Free Retirement Benefits of a Health Savings Account. Here's a link to the blog post to find out more: https://apprisewealth.com/news/health-savings-accounts-a-triple-tax-free-retirement-benefit/

Jaden Sterling started his finance career on Wall Street but became disillusioned with the money-making machine that didn't look after investors. He noticed that most of the wealthy people that came to him had something in common. They owned a handful of stocks, no more than four to six, but on average about four different holdings. It was contrary to his Wall Street training that emphasised the importance of diversification.

We're all investors in the stock market, either directly or through our retirement plans. We're handing over management of our assets to financial advisors and fund managers. The best will look…
Where do you go if you're completely new but want to start learning about investing in the market yourself. The jargon is dense and it can feel like we're being kept deliberately in the dark with many confusing metrics.
In Stocks for Beginners you'll hear from people in the finance industry and together we'll explain the key concepts of investing while they share their financial knowledge. More importantly, they have insights that allow us to look under the hood of the stock market, explaining how it works and what to look out for.
How is your Roth 401 (k) or 401 (k) investment retirement account linked to the stock market? It's crucial to understand the fundamentals of stock markets. I recommend "The Intelligent Investor" by Benjamin Graham and Warren Buffett's newsletters.
I explore the basics - what a stock is and how to buy one, and delve into the world of value investing, exploring strategies to identify undervalued stocks. I cover the NYSE, FTSE, Dow Jones, S&P500, the Russell, CBOE (Chicago Board Options Exchange), ETFs (Exchange-Traded Funds), Mutual Funds, ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), and the difference between passive and active investing.
There are many traps for beginner investors and it's good to be aware of the role and risks of options, warrants, CFDs (Contracts for Difference), day trading, bonds, cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, the difference between fundamental and technical analysis.
Tracking your investments is essential, and it's important to know about watchlists, understand dividends, robo-investing, dollar-cost averaging, fixed income, index funds, and micro-investing.
What is the role of stockbrokers and online brokers and how to buy and sell stocks.
I've interviewed industry experts and collaborated with Gary Brode, Caleb Silver, Spencer Jakab from Wall Street Journal, Erik Smolinski, Investopedia, Stockopedia, Lawrence Carel, Deep Knowledge Investing, 2 bulls in a china shop.
We have to be smart. We have to be diversified and we have to have good risk management strategies if we want to invest for the long term. That's what I'm all about. I'm Phil Muscatello. Join me on Stocks for Beginners. For more information go to https://www.stocksforbeginners.net/
