What exactly is sunk cost fallacy? It’s a tendency to follow through on our endeavors if we have already invested time, effort, or money into it, regardless of if the current costs outweigh the benefits.

But to me, it’s completely irrational to continue with something just because you’ve spent time and money on it, but people do it every single day. It’s 100% human nature. They stay in jobs they hate, marriages that are no longer serving them, and friendships that don’t make them happy.

When we stay in these situations that aren’t serving us anymore, we are completely ignoring our own well-being and happiness. What’s the point of doing something if it makes you miserable?

In today’s episode, Todd and I are talking all about the sunk cost fallacy, why your decisions about the future shouldn’t include what happened in the past, and how to get over the idea of people labeling you as a quitter.

I don’t agree with the advice that you should pursue your passion when it comes to your life, career, or business. Instead, you should follow your energy.

Everyone’s energy is unique. When you start monitoring the things that drain you of energy vs. the things that light you up and have you hopping out of bed in the morning, it becomes very clear what you should be including more of in your life, and what you should be saying goodbye to.

A very common energy drain is our jobs. If you find yourself constantly recovering from your job, despite being “passionate” about the work you’re doing, it’s time to say goodbye and find something that gets you jazzed and pumped up.

This podcast is all about getting out of the 9-5 grind and getting into living the life you love, so what better way to start off the show than for us to share our stories of how we were able to leave our 9-5 jobs and live a life of financial and location freedom!

Megan was an emergency veterinarian for many years and absolutely hated it. She dealt with long hours, angry owners, and traumatizing days. Todd was an engineer who at first loved his job, but after a few years, dreaded going into work every morning.

After feeling unappreciated and almost as if we were a shell of ourselves, we decided it was time to make a drastic pivot. Now we are living a life that we truly enjoy, can be our true selves, and where we are making huge impacts.
