SuperCoach Edge

Hello and welcome to SuperCoach Edge for the Round 15 Review and Round 16 Preview!

Well we made it. We weathered the storm and have made it out the other side. The byes are over and it’s all smooth sailing from here. Well - we can hope at least! As always, there were some villains and some saviors! Liam, how did you pull up? I feel as though we deserve a t-shirt that says “I survived the byes” on the front.

We touch on what to do with Clarry Oliver, the players to target to finish your teams (both highest tier and discounted options) and more!

We’re nearly at the end of the four-week bye period, and with only one round to go, the finish line is well and truly in sight!

The weekend displayed the highs and lows of rookie scores, with the likes of SheezNuts going nuts, gobbling up maximum chips around the backline like a quality seagull should to score 103. Then we saw the likes of Sheldrick score a quality 91 in limited TOG, whilst in that same game for the opposition, Dev Robertson gave us a tasty Slice of Deven, as we marveled at his score of 95 singing…

"The sun shines over my horizon, he's a slice of Deven (slice of heaven)"

Then we saw other rookies such as MJ score 32 after being subbed with a corkie, and Ford punched out a 30, along with Buller scoring a 17 on debut. It really reaffirms why we’re trying to get the last of our on-field rookies out of our starting 22 and fill every spot with reliable premos/keepers. Oh, and now we have confirmation that Sicily will miss three weeks.

We discuss Sicily in greater detail and more, so strap yourselves in!

Week two of the byes are done and dusted - and despite it being the ‘easiest’ of the bye rounds with just Geelong and the Gold Coast missing - we were still thrown some curve balls with Clarry missing the King’s Birthday clash with an infected blister on his trotter and James Sicily sent directly to the tribunal for a dangerous tackle. This might be a follow up Sicilian Vacation! But unlike Chevy Chase’s National Lampoon’s Vacation film franchise, this sequel is anything but funny.

Luckily, Zerrett hasn't been cited and will play Rd 15 - bolstering a week where we will struggle.

But Rd 13 was also full of positivity with some big scores across the board - Dunkley's 148, Laird's 156, Sicily and Taranto's 136, Bont and Sinclair's 125, and a slew of other popular options tonning up!

But until then, we have another bye ahead of us!

We survived! It was the first of four bye weeks, and it came and went without much carnage - thankfully! It would seem, though, looking back it should be labeled the Bargain Buys of the Byes.

For those that opted to future proof their side’s cash generation in the form of Ford and - most notably - Briggs came away singing “OH HAPPY DAY” with a big pot of gold at the end of the bye rainbow, with the latter scoring a juicy 128 and increasing $86k!

Best of all, he is projected to increase $180k across 3 weeks, and coin that will no doubt come in handy for the last remaining upgrades across the byes and for those that are looking to bring the Pink, Sweaty Pig, Oliver back in their sides - much like us! And it's all courtesy of the pig’s understudy; Kieran Brigglet “the piglet”, as he now shall be dubbed.

But until then, we have another bye ahead of us!

The man known as the Sicilian, James Sicily, underlined both the highs and lows of the round. The good, of course, smashing out a round-high score of 172, only for it then to be soured by the fact he faces a week on the sidelines for collecting Caminiti high - which was given after the dinosaur known as the MRO spun the Wheel of Misfortune and it landed on said penalty.

But wait, there’s more! Laird was also rubbed out for a week in one of the biggest injustices all season. He took Neale to ground, falling first on his own hip/arse to absorb the impact, and didn’t pin the arms of Neale to allow him to break his fall and protect his own head. What more can the bloke do? Our game is beyond cooked, so it’s only a matter of time before helmets are introduced, tackles are outlawed, or players are told to remove their own heads before taking the field.

But then we had more bad news, with Hodor going down with a hamstring injury, impacting both of us and 11% of other owners. To be honest, I didn’t think he could move fast enough to ping a hammy!

But alas, the suspension to both Sicily, Laird and injury to Hodor is made all the harder by the fact we will be struggling for cover with the byes now upon us, where it’s best 18!

And the byes are of course a major talking point in this episode, with Round 12 presenting as the first bye for the season, so we’ll do a quick refresher for everyone as to who has the byes, and which will impact us most. And we have some DPPs additions to announce… well, just one of note, really, with a couple of big names missing out by a bee’s proverbial!

He’s the “taste we love without the cholesterol” - which is the tagline for I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter - and probably doesn’t describe the namesake Zak Butters with any real sense or accuracy, but his 184 points on the weekend was as smooth and tasty as it could get in SC terms.

And another Zach who gorged himself on BUTTERY points without fear of cholesterol was Merrett, who came out and scored a 162 for owners, leaving non-owners (like myself) with their faces pressed up against the virtual SC glass drooling at the prospect.

We were vocal on Twitter about him being a BIG captaincy option for good reason, and hope owners heeded our advice and made him captain!

And in keeping with the rhyming first names, we had Jack Sinclair smash out a season-high 160! But it wasn’t just keepers who were delivering, it was the likes of Humphrey B. Bear finding his voice with back-to-back tons, and Weedle our resident SCE Pokemon, who looked to have evolved into his final form with a BIG 114. Ridiculous!

But we can’t forget the biggest development to come out of the weekend and that is the news that the Pink, Sweaty Pig has been ruled out with a hamstring strain for “the short term” to quote Melbourne. We discuss all that and more in this week's ep!

It was a mixed bag of a round this round, not unlike a box of Favourites. We had the virtual Picnics, Crunchies and Boosts in “You’re so GULDEN” pig it up with a 156 for the second week in a row, Hodor smashing the door down for a 151 and Marshall delivering a tasty 131.

And then we had the Turkish Delight in the form of Sinclair’s 65, English’s 88 and Dawson’s 89, which all deserved to go straight in the bin, much like the chocolate itself.

And if there was anything worse than a Turkish Delight it would exist in the form of disastrous moments such as Mills getting injured and subbed for a score of 5, Hopper doing a calf for 43, LDU doing a hammy, along with Steele and Laird both being rested and subbed for what their teams are calling minor niggles.

It was a worry for some, and not for others, but as a famous man once said - "life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get!"

And so too is SuperCoach!

It was a relatively uneventful round for once - but with injuries and key suspensions in recent weeks, it was a welcome relief for us all!

Josh Dunkley got things off to a flyer first up - especially for those who captained him - and he went on a clinic to score 149. Not to be outdone, though, Bont proved an even tastier option with a 164, whilst the Pink, Sweaty Pig was a suitable alternative with 136.

And it only took multiple best on grounds and an Anzac Day Medal, but opposition coaches are finally paying close attention to Nick Daicos, who scored a lowly score by his standards of just 81 against the Swans, with Clarke his shadow for a majority of the day.

And in terms of poor scores, there are a couple of fallen premos who perhaps have further to fall in price than we originally thought, with low-scoring weeks from Neale and Sicily - who coincidentally both scored 63 - going to result in a further drop.

With byes fast approaching, these fallen premos could be ripe for the picking at the perfect time. We discuss the best options to target this week and more!

It was a Green Day, as Tom Green and Will Day were a welcome return to our sides from suspension, thankfully meaning we didn’t have to rely on as many putrid onfield rookies as last week given they burnt us.

Laird gave us a scare twice over when there were conflicting reports he might not play due to calf tightness. Shout out to the Crows CEO for setting the record straight to say he would 100% play, when other journos were simply guessing. Tip of the cap to you, good sir!

We had the likes of Gulden, Marshall and Sheezel among a handful who returned to form SC wise, whilst Chandler highlighted his importance as a cashcow, as he once again kick-started his cash generation, whilst The Ricotta Man (Cincotta) gave us all hope that he could be the next rookie to replicate such a rise with a handy score and BIG cash projection.

And then we had Matthew Nicks heed our advice on Nick Daicos, playing Ben Keays on him to great effect, largely nullifying him. I presume our cheques are in the mail for that advice?

Well, we’ve had some bad weeks up until now in 2023, but this takes the cake. I think Johnny Cash said it best when he sung “I will let you down, I will make you hurt”, and I think that sums up the cruel mistress that is SuperCoach and the love/hate relationship we share with her. But if it’s any solace no one was immune from the scattergun mayhem the SC Gods sprayed across the competition.

But it's onwards and upwards as we help you out of the SC rut and present some juicy cashcows and fallen premos ripe for the picking! We also outline the best options for the injured Touk and more!
